That’s super cool. Really like that a lot.

How cool. It’s funny as just today I was thinking about how these might be fabricated. Nice work.

This is brilliant! I was just thinking about what to do about this bush on the G60 Syncro rebuild.

This is extremely interesting! I really look forward to seeing the innards of the VC.

Inside the VC, doesn’t the oil have to be at a very specific pressure, or something? Don’t the ‘plates’ wear in terms of their surfaces?

With the shell rotated on the jig, the option I chose in the end was to just cut out the old captive nuts that had the sheared threads, and weld in new little plates with new nuts welded into place. I did try to drill out the old studs first and rescue the existing nuts, but I made a mess of that.

After welding in the new pieces with the new nuts, I tapped through again just to remove any distortion from heat.

I still haven’t actually tested and run this manifold yet. I’m still working on the G60 Syncro’s shell.

I had the manifold skimmed recently though, to complete it.

The manifold had a little bit of distortion in the flanges which was to be expected. The distortion was minimised because I had the head flange bolted to a scrap 16V head and the downpipe flange mounted to a massive slab of steel during TIG welding. The distortion has been machined away by the machine shop I use (Robert Walker Engineering near Chipping Norton).

Evening Chris, I’m just about to hit the sack but it certainly would be good to chat with you at some point.

I didn’t know Pascal too well but I am certain he’s given me help in the past, especially on here.

I haven’t visited this forum for a little while. It’s a terrible shock to come on tonight and learn this news.

Any further updates about how you did this and how well the VC works on the car afterwards would be extremely appreciated. There was some discussion about doing this a few months back on here.

Haven’t made any moves at all with the PAS conversion at all, I’m sorry. Thought about it, and that’s it. Made the mistake of having a kid and so the Syncro shell has a layer of dust on it! Making some progress, though. Must update with some new pictures.

I did! It was very expensive though, and I have not used it yet.

I did test a little sample though. Compared with the cheap Gravitex, it is a lot better. It withstands a lot more flexing than Gravitex does. It dries and stays extremely tough and rubbery, just as the original underseal does.

Ah – many thanks – that confirms it, as I did measure between the flats and it looked like 17mm.

Also, I’d be quite interested to know how Patrick cleaned the parts of your differential. Perhaps using one of those little workshop cleaning / degreasing tanks?
