I am almost certainly going to be fitting a KR in a Syncro too, because I built my 16V G60 using a KR long before I knew I would end up wanting to put it into a Syncro.
I am proposing to make a bracket that compensates for the missing thread by providing support from the rear engine mount area instead. In actual fact, I shall be moving the alternator from the front to the back when it goes into my LHD Syncro; I therefore propose that the ‘Limited’ style rear alternator bracket will have an extra ‘arm’ coming from it to bolt to the transfer box mount, if that makes sense.
Trev16vMemberPM sent, Sam.
Trev16vMemberI think the set I have are light grey.
Trev16vMemberSammy,
I have got a set of carpets that came from a RHD UK five-door Syncro. Where are you located? I’m in Oxfordshire.
Trev16vMemberI have a G60 Syncro (3 door, A/C, Edition One), and too I have been wanting to know how many were produced. I think there are already a number of old threads on this forum on this subject.
The problem is that there are a LOT of figures suggested on various internet sites, and yet I have never seen any convincing evidence to verify any of these figures. I think that most of these figures are numbers that somebody has once guessed.
In fact, somewhere on this forum is a quote from a letter from VW that shows that even VW themselves cannot provide any G60 Syncro figures.
Not so long ago there was a guy in the UK on Edition38 selling a red G60 Syncro with A/C, and he was claiming only 70 were made with A/C. Apparently this figure came from the VW Museum in Wolfsburg, through a friend of his. Sorry, but I’m not prepared to just believe it.

Trev16vMemberAgreed.
Trev16vMemberActually I just re-read the propshaft bearing replacement guide by ChrisS and realised that there’s no mention of having to lower any subframes. So I’m thinking I might as well just buy some bearings to keep safe in case I need them because, by the sound of it, replacing them wouldn’t really be all that hard with the car all built back up.

Trev16vMemberThose propshaft bolts just need a regular 10mm 12-point socket.
Trev16vMemberWell erm, seems to be quieter on here lately for various reasons, which is a shame.
I check on here usually once a day.
Trev16vMemberMakes me feel guilty for breaking up a five-door UK specification Syncro to make a three-door one, which was a project I abandoned in the end when I found my G60 Syncro instead. However, the car I broke up was awfully rusty.
Trev16vMemberWelcome Brian, and pleased to have helped!
Trev16vMemberSo when comparing a MK2 with a bonded window against a MK2 with a normal unbonded windscreen, is there any difference in the aperture (i.e. the chassis) itself? I need a new windscreen for the G60 Syncro but I think I’ll use a normal windscreen, so long as it fits properly and looks standard.
Trev16vMemberI plan to put a KR into my G60 Syncro. If I were starting from scratch then I know an ABF would be a better choice for the reasons above, but the problem is that long before I knew I was going to own a Syncro I built my 16V G60 engine using a KR overbored to 1.9, using JE low compression pistons; and I’d rather just drop this engine in than go into the expense of rebuilding with another block. To get around the missing bolt hole problem I was planning to make a beefy bracket that links between the transfer box bracket and rear engine mount bracket. Aside from this and the obvious need to make a custom manifold, I hope that the KR will present no other major issues.
Trev16vMemberIt’s getting there. The shell is now finished and painted, but it has been sat in my garage for six months ever since it came out of the body shop! Too much going on at the moment but I’ll get there.
Trev16vMemberI was going to be there, but with my wife being in hospital at the moment I don’t think I could get away with it…!
