im sensible and sympathetic to a gearbox now im older and previously killed a T3 box 😀
Do you know if the 1P exhaust manifold with bolt up to the AGG? cant see a reason why not, but you never know

Attended the London Cartel mk2 london cruise, excellent evening with some amazing cars. And they did snap this rather nice pic of my car.
Still havent got on with attending to the gearbox selector shaft leak, my camper is not drivable at the moment as im mocking up and fitting an oil cooler. Soon though, soon…

Also need to make a decision on whether i rebuild the original 1.8 1P engine or fit the 2.0 AGG.. Either way i’ll likely get the box stripped and checked and probably get the diff bolted if it hasnt already. Have been really tempted to fit a cable change box, just dont know if its justifiable im sure a rod box can handle a AGG?

ok, so the car has been to the garage i use to get an alignment, swap to 16v front brakes and attend to the oil leak.
On the oil leak front, the old seal was replaced. but it was found that the bearing that holds the selector shaft central has failed and there is a LOT of movement. 🙁 a new bearing wouldnt have arrived in time, so that is something i have ordered from vw along with another seal and a new indent bolt. That will be fun to change myself..
The front engine mount had failed, so was replaced. some loom connectors were re terminated due to nearly being broken. Also a slight knock was traced to a small metal sleeve that fits inside the vertical bush on the front wishbone. I never fitted this because i never knew it existed!
Ignition leads, cap, rotor, plugs were replaced.
16V brakes were fitted, this has made an amazing difference to the feel of the brakes. in my opinion its the brakes the country should have been sold with, its a heavy old beast!

Went out on the 1st decent drive, roughly about a 120 mile round trip. Drives lovely. Unfortunately noticed a few drips of fluid after being parked up. Smell test showed gear oil.. And around the cv boot quite wet, damn i thought, i must have screwed up putting the oil cap on the drive flange..
After getting home and having a proper look, it actually looks like its coming from the gear selector shaft seal. Definitely very wet, and as you can see the seal is knackered! surprised how much oil can leak out of there actually, seeing how high up it is.

Took delivery of a AGG engine today, looking at it it looks to have the fixing holes for the angle iron bracket? if someone could confirm?
Not sure what to do with it really, part of me want to put it in the golf. i do have another gearbox that has a bolted diff and longer 5th which may suit it.. the other part of me wants to just store it for the camper for when diesel is priced out. Maybe see how i feel after i get the engine timed up and new plugs leads ect, see if i crave more power. Maybe a 02c box would be well suited……
