ModeratorYes you will need to add some new sensors & wires
a GTI 16v speedo will do the job, but your speedometer reading will be miles out!
Did you see what I did there? [

ModeratorHelicoils should work if they are fitted properly.

ModeratorCould you possibly retap the threads the next size up?

ModeratorIts mechanical, its probably the cable thats broken.
Part Number is 192 957 803B But unfortunately it was dropped without replacement by VW on 01-01-2008
btw its the same as the 2WD Golf 2 cable, so a trip to the scrapyard may be in order!
Here are some new ones [

ModeratorIt depends which model/year your car is?

ModeratorAny photos?

ModeratorApart from oil leaks from the Syncro specific drivetrain, IE front transfer box & rear diff, you need to watch out for all the known 2WD Golf 2 weak points,
To be honest your main problem with any car of this age is rust, keep on top of that & your Syncro is virtually bulletproof!
Getting the box sections Waxoyled might be a good idea.

but do be careful

ModeratorIts a Weber 32/34 DTML & there is a new one here
this isalso the correct carb for a 1800 Syncro
Although you may need to buy this fitting kit as well
& yes the GTI head is a direct swap

I think that they are worth at least £2k and this one, if it is as good as you say and unmolested, is likely to be considerably more.
Thats about right for the price of a std Syncro, Country, G60Syncro & Rallye are of course worth more, although it is still possible to find a tatty or laid up car with no MOT for less.

ModeratorDo you have the Bilstein part number please?

If it is i have heard that these are quite easy to install later on to allmost any block by using ones on KR block.
Its not that simple to fit oil squirters to an engine not already fitted with them, at a minimum you will need engineering facilities to machine the blockInjectors wont open under 2Bar oil pressure. I might be wrong becouse this is something i have heard, not seen. Its normally just over 3 bar (50psi) when the squirters start to do their thing
btw the G60, 2E & KR motors all use different (& incompatable) oil squirters
Chris S
ModeratorI can imagine.

Good on you, I can feel (even from this distance) even more nutterness to follow with the stronger drivetrain!
I hope you are taking notes on this conversion, as it just might be the way to go! [
