Absolutely not! the tanks are also few & far between, breakers yards being non syncro owners don’t usually realize that the tank is different from the 2wd version & just scrap the whole thing.
Perhaps I should have phrased it better, in that you are more likely to find a tank than a neck.
As with all things Syncro being rare, rare becomes a relative term when applied to the Syncro market!

Chris SModeratorThis is the easy part to find, as the filler neck usually gets left on the car which is then either crushed or shredded along with the Syncro Specific filler neck, the 2wd Golf 2 models all have a 1 piece tank which incorporates the filler neck.
Chris SModeratorI can’t wait to see it.
Chris SModeratorIf you want to use the Golf 3 VR6 wishbone you will need the golf 3 VR6 mounting brackets as the side bearings are a different size to the golf 2, the golf 3 VR6 mounting brackets do bolt up to the body shell without any modifications though.
Chris SModeratorHave a look here, you may have to log in again though.

Chris SModeratorIts starting to look a lot better Danny
Chris SModeratorYou would probably have to get a bit creative with the inlet/exhaust pipework & the turbo mounting but it should all go in.
after all VW did make a Golf 3 Syncro Diesel I think?- This reply was modified 7 years, 11 months ago by Chris S.
Chris SModeratorIf anyone is interested in doing a Diesel Syncro conversion, then I have a 020 (rodchange) gearbox which has had the diesel final drive fitted in place of the petrol one, so your diesel conversion will not be revving its guts out at 70 mph, the gearbox is a direct replacement for your original box & requires no modifications to fit.
please contact me for details- This reply was modified 7 years, 11 months ago by Chris S.

as shown here on a 2wd rear disc set up
btw you can use rear mk4 ally calipers with this set up (better braking force & the handbrake doesn’t seize up anywhere as easily
