Chris SModeratorComplete rear axle ready to fit []
With new mk4 brake calipers
New brake pipes
And a new Rallye ARB and mountings
Chris SModeratorYes they did, it had one less draw and no side pocket!
Chris SModeratorThe DX motor has solid cam followers while the GU has hydraulic ones, and most tuning companies have different cams listed for the two motors,
see here http://techtonicstuning.com/showcategories.asp?catid=29
and here http://techtonicstuning.com/camsspecs.asp
My friend Edwin also says that the DX cam wont be any good on a hydraulic cam follower motor,

And playing in Syncro number 815
Chris SModeratorYes, very much so http://www.vwsyncro.co.uk/data/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1671
Chris SModeratorYes very much so
Chris SModeratorSee guide for progress
Chris SModeratorNo its more than likely a (99% certain) broken cable, you could try pulling and releasing the handbrake a few times incase the internal caliper adjuster has come unstuck but its really not likely to make any difference.
Suprise, Suprise, it was the internal adjuster/cable, there’s one for the book []
Chris SModeratorReplacing a Handbrake cable on a Rallye or any Syncro with rear disc brakes for that matter is easier in one respect as you dont have to get brake drums off to fit the cables, but you do have to fiddle the cables round under the heatshields and on the Rallye/Passat Syncro the twin silencer boxes are also a bit in the way.
Chris SModeratorThe only sensor (if it can even be called a sensor) on the Syncro system is in the reversing light/neutral switch mounted on the gearbox which disengages the free wheel when you select reverse, the Syncro system is very simple and works without the need for any electonics, chips or computers, its the VC unit that hydraulically controls the power output to the rear wheels and a vacuum diaphragm operated by a solenoid controlled from the reversing light switch controls the 4wd in reverse,
btw, the bonk you hear from the rear of the car when you first reverse is the free wheel disengaging.Chris SModeratorWhile doing this (Adjustable rear camber & toe in Guide) last night I faithfully captioned all the photos and the captions didnt show when I pasted them into the post oh bugger []
btw, the post has already had over 130 hits in the last 12 hours since I put it up, I know maybe I used 30 or so while building but that is a lot of hits in a very short time [] Shows we are doing something right eh []Chris SModeratorProgress report, one side of the wishbone is now fully adjustable, both the inner & outer mountings are ready and functioning, I started the on the other side today, hopefully it will be completed this week end then I can post the full photo guide within a week or so,
I will post some photos here later this evening.Photo guide now up and running, I will try and take some better photos later []
