If you do Chris then I’ll cross your palm with much silver.
Trev16vMemberHiya Chris,
Interesting pictures!
Fortunately my Syncro is LHD, not RHD.
The manifold and downpipe that you show there on the right looks just like the one on my G60 Syncro.
So what you are showing there on the left appears to be a standard G60 Syncro downpipe that has been chopped, and transformed into a four-branch manifold. So I see – I could make something like that but to fit the 16V. Did you make this yourself? Where are the bits of tube obtained from?
In order to attempt this I think I need to obtain a spare downpipe so I can avoid chopping up my original one. I often see these on eBay.de from the Passat G60. Are they the same?
Many thanks
Trev
Trev16vMemberThanks Chris.
I thought that it would be possible to make a new downpipe that bends around so that its flange is positioned directly above the propeller shaft so that it’ll mate with a stock KR manifold but, looking at some picures of my Syncro’s engine bay, I realise this is probably very difficult or impossible.
Do you think that there is any real benefit in upgrading the downpipe section?
Given the fact that stainless aftermarket manifolds can get very hot and crack and so on, together with the fact that space down there is a lot more critical with the propeller shaft (and of course I don’t want the damn thing getting overheated) I’m tempted to retain the factory downpipe and just have a custom top manifold made. Does this sound sensible? Any ideas what the Limited used?
If you were doing this Chris how would you be tempted to do it? Would you ditch all VW parts and have an entirely custom system?
Thanks
Trev
Trev16vMemberI wish to fit a KR into my Syncro and although I might try Chris’s method above of fitting an additional stud, I currently propose to solve this problem by fabricating a strong bracket that links between the transfer unit and the rear engine mount. Any of you guys see any problems with doing this? If I go ahead, I’ll gladly share pictures and diagrams afterwards.
Trev16vMemberJohn,
I’ve now emailed you some pictures of the VR6 Syncro parts I have, as requested.
Trev
Trev16vMemberMy parts are still available.
Trev16vMemberBump.
I’ve had a long list of interested people but all turned out to be total timewasters, as usual. So they’re still available.
Trev16vMemberAfter asking me lots of times to sell you the VR6 transfer unit I have, I finally accepted your offer to buy both the VR6 transfer unit and rear differential off me. However, you ignored all of my emails I sent in response. Please indicate whether you want them or not.
Trev16vMemberI’ve got two of these. I have not compared them side by side but I recall one of them having grey buttons, and the other one black! I won’t be home until the weekend but when I get back I can get some pictures if you like.
But no, hang on a minute… these are out of a regular MK2 and hence won’t fit into a Syncro centre unit will they.
Bugger.
Did they actually do one for the Syncro?

John, I replied to your email over the weekend. Are you still after the parts?
Trev16vMemberThe gearbox is for a four-cylinder engine.
Trev16vMemberThanks for the offer, but I’m not in a rush to sell.
Trev16vMemberSorry mate – I’ll give you a shout over the weekend. I’m a bit busy during the week.
I’m not prepared to split the parts (except the gearbox) and I’m firm on the price above.
Trev16vMemberLooking at around £650.
I’ll send you an email or ring later tonight.
Trev16vMemberI would be prepared to sell the VR6 parts separate from the gearbox but I don’t want to split them up further than that.
I will be able to look closely at the Skoda gearbox at the weekend.
