ModeratorYou are correct you shouldnt need them.
Light Grey? what condition are they in? rips or tears etc? I am interested in them of they are not in too bad condition.
Please can you email me with photos prices etc – at syncrogolf2@zonnet.nl

ModeratorWhat colour & condition are the carpets in?
but wont you need them to fit to the high tunnel that you should really weld in along with the rear floorpan?
Like this
Chris S
ModeratorUnfortunately its only the syncro style high tunnel & not the Syncro rear floor fitted to the 2wd G60

ModeratorI just corrected & reposted the link.

ModeratorThe reverse Rear wheel drive normally engages within about 3 to 6 feet or so of driving backwards, usually you will hear (and possibly feel) a bonk from the rear end, this is the freewheel mech being locked out and the reverse rear wheel drive engaging.
Given the age of the reversing light switch and the fact that they operate every time you change gear (not just into reverse) it is usually this which is faulty, followed by the exposed vacuum pipes & wiring mounted on the rear diff,
There is also a relay mounted on the fuse/relay box P/N 191 957 917A it is mounted either in position 18 or 20

ModeratorAnother option would be to buy a left hand drive 2 door Syncro and convert this to right hand drive,
personally I think this might be the easier path to follow,
basically all you need is a LHD 2 door Syncro & a RHD Golf 2 to swap the Dash, Steering & brake master cylinder over,
obviously it is a bit more complicated than this, but far easier than cutting out and welding in a new tunnel & rear floor even assuming that you can find them!

ModeratorYou have to unbolt the outer wing to get at the 3 ball res.

the non return valve nr 4 in the drawing is connected to the inlet manifold by a further length of vacuum pipe,
btw do you have a carburettor or injection model?
as the manifold connection differs between the twoChris S

ModeratorFor a hollow shaft? if you know your required length? then all you need is someone with a lathe & a welder, but they must know how to use both of them!

ModeratorThe handbrake cables are no longer available from VW
The rear flexy brake pipes are p/n 171 611 775
This may help for the H/brake cables,

ModeratorOr I will rebuild your switch with new pins/springs etc for the same price.

ModeratorQ) Is there a way of checking the system buy putting the car in reverse and looking to see if the diaphram has moved
A) yes you can check it that way but the engine has to be running to create the vacuum,
you might also want to check your vacuum non return valve (fitted ubder the bonnet between the inlet manifold & the green vacuum pipe)
Q) What colour wires shoud i check in the revsing switch ?
A) good question, all of them I would think!
btw, the gearbox mounted Syncro reversing light switch was dropped withour replacement on 01-06-2007 and is no longer available from VW,
but I have some rebuilt ones here (rebuilt with new springs, conntacts etc) which are for sale on an exchange basis at 50 eu each + postage
Chris S
ModeratorCheck your under bonnet vacuum lines, esp the Light green one that disappears under the front left wing & your reversing light switch.
Chris S
