ModeratorLD50 looked into ‘drifting’ with the Syncro a couple of years ago, but I think he decided a cheap BMW would be better.

ModeratorNo, its not possible to control as the viscous coupling does all the work mechanically, well hydraulically anyway.
Why would you want more understeer anyway? most people are trying to remove it. [

ModeratorI see you got your printer, which did you buy?

ModeratorHurrah its sorted!

ModeratorFor most people its the 4 doors that are the problem, as it is not seen as sporty enough,
I wonder if converting a 4 door Syncro shell to 2 doors would be an easier conversion than the floor pan?
or possibly converting a left hand drive to right hand? I think that the latter would be my choice.

ModeratorYes thats very true, but the MKII RHD version only came with 4 doors, 90 BHP & a rod change 020 type gearbox.

ModeratorIf you look at the last diagram from above http://volkswagen.msk.ru/electro/b3/b3_9a_91_windsh.gif
Now imagine that you have the wires going to terminals 53 (green/black) & 31 (brown wire) to each others terminal,
so you are now using terminal 53 as the earth instead of the correct nr 31 and are supplying positive current to terminal 31,
the motor will then run as normal,UNTIL you select to send power to terminal 53B when it goes directly to earth blowing the fuse,
or possibly you have terminal 53B and 31 transposed, you can check it out with a circuit tester or multimeter.

ModeratorI think that you have the cables connected the wrong way around, and it is earthing out on slow speed, btw intermittent is slow speed with a second (delay) relay in the circuit.

ModeratorA Rallye or G60 Passat Syncro gearbox is a direct swap, however you will need to change a few more parts over as well as the box, things like the Flywheel & clutch assembly, gearlever mechanism, drive shafts, clutch operating system etc.
btw you do not need to change the rear axle as it is compatable with the Passat gearbox/transfer box
Dan (housey) has just done this conversion so he should be able to state what extra Passat parts he needed.
The rod change box won’t hold up to 170 bhp for very long, especially when “thrashed”
you will very shortly be able to say “thrashed to death”
Here is whats on ebay.de at the moment. http://shop.ebay.de/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=G60+syncro+getriebe&_sacat=See-All-Categories
