ModeratorPhotos please as it is difficult to gauge the extent of the problem, but I really dont think you will be able to safely “stretch’ a narrow enough tyre to get clearance or clear the arches
do you know the offset of the wheels? even without the 2 inch wide adapter just having 9 inch wheels and 255 tyres would give you a clearance problem and the more the car is lowered the worse it gets, what you must realise is that the Syncro rear suspension is totally and completely different to the 2wd version which has just a simple beam axle that goes up and down with no camber or toe in changes as the suspension is lowered or compressed, on the other hand the Syncro rear can alter the camber so much by an inch or more on the outer corner of the tyre, as you can see here before I fitted the spacer ring the tyre was hitting the spring seat on full deflection, and to do that it had to move across over an inch from the static position.also please read this,

ModeratorATM the car is riding to high at the rear, so I may have to shorten the springs (again) and then get the tracking and camber/toe in done, what a bugger, then I will post track lengths etc,
After driving around the block the rear has settled down to an acceptable ride hight so it only needs tracking now.Chris S
ModeratorAnd here are the first (not very good) photos of the new rear track,
I will measure up the different widths between the old and new track tomorrow when the car is sat on its wheels at the correct ride hight.

ModeratorUpdate as of 18 June 2007
Here is a copy of the correspondence I have had with Marangoni Germany over the last week.
Wednesday 13 June 2007
Hallo, I am writing to you as I cant find a Marangoni office in the Netherlands
I bought and fitted a set of 4 195/50 x R15 82V Linea zeta tyres less than a year and a half ago, recently one failed the yearly statutary APK (TUV/MOT type) test due to having a series of air bubbles in the sidewall, there were no visible scuff marks to indicate any kerbing,
I bought and paid for a replacement Linea Zeta tyre, but I now notice that a second tyre also has an air bubble in the sidewall, again there are no visible scuff marks which would indicate that it has been kerbed
As my car has done less than 12000 kilometers since these tyres were first fitted, approximately 1/2 on your summer tyres and 1/2 on its winter wheels/tyres, I find this (6000 Kilometers) a totally unacceptable tyre life, and wonder how far the sidewalls are from bubbling on the other tyres?
Can you tell me if your double warranty exchange applies in the Netherlands?
and if so how do I make a Claim?
btw the first 4 tyres were bought from Delticom.de & the replacement from autobandenmarkt.nl
Regards, Chris SWednesday 13 june 2007
Dear Chris, For normal you have to contact your supplier, Delticom has to handle a claim. If possible please send a Foto to my adress and I will take a look on it. After this I will decide how to go on. Regards Uweppa. Uwe Arnhölter

Hallo Uwe, Thank you for your reply, please find enclosed a few photos of the 2nd tyre, I will try and make some better photos later, Ironically in on this tyre the bulge is centred on the words ‘safety warning’,
I have to go to the tyre centre to see if first tyre has been disposed of yet or if I can get the back. mfg ChrisFriday 15 june 2007
Good morning Chris, You will get 4 new tires from our Partner for Netherland van Aalderen in Almelo with next week by parcel service. Please destroy your 4 tires after mounting the new once and send me a picture of this.

And How is this for service! Thank you Uwe and Marangoni
The new tyres arrived this morning and will be fitted next week when I have the car out of the garage and back on the road.Ps, Could you imagine the response from say Dunlop, Michelin, Goodyear, etc if they were asked the same question?
I think the 2nd word of their reply may have been ‘off’Chris S
ModeratorUpdate Friday 8th june, She who must be obeyed is away this week [
] And I have the Syncro all to myself so I am slowly working through
1) Fitting the new rear axle and the remaining (rear) half of my 200 bhp capable exhaust system – Fitted
2) Fitting the new(larger)radiator & the twin fans – Fitted
3) Fitting the Hella DE Headlamps/spotlamps & grill – Fitted
4) Fitting the Hight adjustable steering column – Fitted
5) Fitting the Brand new 22mm (needed to cope with the rear discs)ABS/EDL master cylinder + harness & computer, M/C Fitted, but not the harness or computer yet
6)(And a very sad one this) Fitting the walnut dash kit that I just bought from fleabay – FittedPhotos of progress on job 1
The old axle removed
It looks a bit bare under here
And looking forward
More photos to follow as the work progresses
And now for the bad news,
Due to a VW Netherlands computer upgrade the dealers haven’t been able to order parts for a few days, so my rear axle job is stopped in its tracks as I am waiting for 9 new axle mounting bolts for the rear and side mountings (some of the originals were a bit wa(i)sted),
I have also found 2 patches of serious rust (holes) on the inner sides of the lower parts of the wheel housings, considering that the car is 18&1/2 years old (jan 89) I am suprised that there is so little serious structural rust,
These rust patches will be easily covered by welded in plates of approx 15cm x 5cm, the inside will be Waxoyled for further protectionChris S

ModeratorAnd everthing on ebay.de has very expensive prices at the momemt, like about 700 to 800 euros for a complete box + at least another couple of hundred for postage to the UK
Chris S
ModeratorWhat carb has it a Weber or a Pooberg?
Chris S
ModeratorThe obvious answer is to junk the carb and fit a Weber,
But there is a possibility that it is just the waxstat that is stuck on your pooberg carb, this can sometimes be fixed by removing it and placing it in a pan of boiling water, but by the time you have messed about doing that (and it may not work) you could have fitted a Weber and be off round the block and back home with a bigger smile than usual on your face, as the Weber gives about another 5 bhp and better fuel economy.
