ModeratorWhat model & year please?

ModeratorYou need the electric connections and the vacuum conection to control the 4wd diff lock & freewheel, the vacuum pipe goes from the 3 ball vacuum res under the front wing to the diff & the cables go to the Syncro specific reverse light switch on the gearbox
Chris S
ModeratorYes, after I had set the ride hight I got the camber & toe in adjusted to within the stock limits

ModeratorI just found this posted by Les on vortex, it is relevant to anyone doing this conversion http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3563664
Note the use of my photo to illustrate his question.

ModeratorOn the 020 box you already have the highest 0.75 to 1 (diesel ratio) 5th gear, the problem with this box is the final drive which is a very low ratio at 4.66 to 1
You need to put a higher (numerically lower) final drive ratio in, have a look here http://www.scirocco.org/gears/ you have the 4S ratios apart from the final driveChris S

ModeratorProbably, I will look this week end, if not the Passat 35i Syncro uses the same bracket.
Chris S
ModeratorThe steering rack is also Syncro specific, but I dont know why.
Chris S
ModeratorYes thats the one, I dont think the 2wd corrado one will fit due to the drive shaft being shorter to accommodate the transfer box, this puts the Joint/boot assembly right in front of the mounting bracket [}

Chris S
ModeratorAnd here they are in my hand! [
] btw they were 1.94 EU each

ModeratorNow presuming that it was running ok before you swapped the head out, then the fault is with either the new head or the 276 cam, do you know what make the cam is?
If the head has been lying around for a while there could be corrosion on the valves/seats, this is normal and just meants the valves need regrinding in to seal properley, with a bit of effort you can do this for yourself at home.

ModeratorI now KNOW why your engine wont start

Your motor code is GU,
My VW manual says that with a new a GU, 1P or PF motor the compression should be between 10 & 13 bar, the minimum pressure for a used motor is 7.5 bar, with a maximum difference of 3 bar between the cylinders
And Dannyp reckons
for a motor with a fair few miles on it, cr to miles seem to go a bit like this
6-7 bar = ( mega miles + abuse ) it’s dead on it’s feet gonna drink fuel and make no power and be a sod to start.
8-9 bar = (150,000 + miles) it’s done lots of work and would like it’s valves regrinding.
10- 11 = (100 – 150 ,0000 miles ) resonably healthy.
12- 13 = ( sub 100,000 miles ) very healthy. -
