The changeover date is 29-10-1990, thats the start of the 1991 model year

xxx MB 036 045 (Golf Country)all propshafts fitted after this date/vin nrs are compatable and fully interchangable between all models built after this date
If you have 90mm Joints/boots? just remove the offending mounting bolt and it will be ok, my first Syncro ran for years like that!
The centre section is the same, but depending on year the end sections can be different with differing diameter drive lug recesses, any other differences are are compatable & interchangeable
There is no gasket, it just uses “sealing paste” p/n AMV 188 01 02
so a hermetite or loctite sealing compound should be ok.75W90 gear oil is ok (synthetic or semi synthetic is best)
No, no no don’t do it, it will vibrate like mad, I have some used but good centre shaft bearings you can have, email me please.
At first I thought you meant replacing the shaft centre section bushings with solid, hence my post on horrendous vibration that yopu could expect.
but if you replace the donuts with solid parts it wont last very long and will wreck the rest of the drivetrain as well.I have some used center bearings here you can have, I sent you an e-mail about it,

rear 191 521 350As for the aluminium bushings, personally I think that they will vibrate like hell cos the G2 Syncro propshaft does NOT run in a straight line, it is more of a dogleg actually, hence the 3 piece propshaft.
You are not obliged to have a cat fitted if your car was made before 1992,
so all Golf 2 models are ok without cats, as long as they will pass the emissions (CO2) test, the figure for the carb version is 3.5% and for the injection its 0.5%
the 4 gas test does not apply to most of our cars as they are too oldBTW, A cat absorbs about 5bhp or so on the 1800 motor. [
