I’ll be in touch as soon as the rest of the suspension is sorted Chris.

I’ll keep an eye out for one. Any pointers on how they bolt up?

    Thanks for that.

The handling isn’t THAT bad, maybe a bit sluggish but its a change from the Syncro Doka :-)

There are a few other issues to sort but the whole 4wd thing has me hooked now and I love the grip. The ‘issues’ will be attended to ASAP and then onto sorting the dynamics/cosmetics.

Thanks Thomas – ever the helpful hand on here.

I’ll get the garage to sort it and swap the tired springs at the same time as the arse is way too low.

Whats the deal on springs? I have a set of new -40mm for a standard 2wd.

Can I use them and chop down the rears?

There was a Mk1 cabrio based 4wd produced in Italy under license from VW.

Not sure what it was called – something like a Biaggio/Biaggini IIRC but surely that used a Syncro pan.

Check out Ebay.de as I have seen some on there.

AFAIK the Audi 2.5 fits the same bellhousing as the I4 VW engines.

Seen both used on the T3 diesel bellhousing so it must be possible, though the engine bay size might be an issue.

    Good News [:D]

I booked it into the local garage (I just didn’t have time to sort it myself as I am working 18hr days – typing this from work!) and 6 hours of work later it runs again!

The entire timing setup was begun from scratch and now it runs a treat. Loads of power throughout the rev range – quite impressed.

I’m going to adjust the Weber now and see if I can maximise on the tune up.

Got hold of a ratty one today.

I think either the belt has slipped or its been timed 180 degrees out.

Going to have a go and replace the timing belt and drive belt at the same time. Hope that cures it!

    Hi, Paul from Notts here.

I drive an ’85 Transporter Syncro crewcab and I am now looking to get a Mk2 Golf Syncro for the missus.

Pics of mine on the next forum down…

    Hi all!

I’m Paul from Notts and I drive an ’85 VW Transporter Syncro Crewcab.

Thomas (aka DiamondHell) is one of my prior contacts and he knows of my ‘barsteward’ Syncro which began life as a 2WD 3 door and is now 4WD with 4 doors.

    As it was

It had the rust sorted earlier this year and various modifications. I’m now building up the bits to do an Audi 2.3 conversion.

    As it is now

I’ll be fitting new wheels and tyres, nudgebar and rocksliders, a new NATO load cover and loads of other bits too – ready for next year (camping, VW shows and some offroad fun).

We are also looking to get a Mk2 Golf Syncro for the winter so the missus doesn’t have to drive her Beetle cabriolet.
