I’m still after the transfer Box!
MikesMemberOn my mk2 I used springs from a 1994 passat estate which are heavy duty and will raise a little bit even after cutting them down. They can take more weight and are ideal for towing. I picked them up from a scrappy for £10!
MikesMemberHi, would I be able to pick up the gearbox sometime?
MikesMemberThat sound cool. How much will you want for it?

Whereabouts do you live. I’ll sort something out and let you know how much it will cost.

I live in Devon, but will be travelling to Scotland next week sometime, so might be able to pick up on route or route back.

As it came with a transfer box/angle drive (again from Chris) I now have a spare! I also have some parts from the original gearbox/transfer box if any one is interested!
Hi, I’m interested in the transfer box as mine is knackered.
Thanks
MikesMikesMemberHi, where abouts are you in the uk?
ThanksMikesMemberuseful information, I’m going to have to learn some German!
I guess that the transfer box is the same on all golfs, as mine is the
1.9tdi mk3 that has a better ratio for cruising on the motorways?MikesMemberIs that behind the flange?
I did hear a bang of some kind just before it bust, I was accelerating fast!MikesMemberThanks I’ll get to work, I’ll chuck in a lift pump to get the fuel flow through.
I found the TDi forum last night and joined that to post there so hopefully I’ll be able to fix this bloody car without having to take it to the garage and go through “whats that I’ve never seem one of those syncros before!!”MikesMemberI’ve just finished changing my clutch and almost got it back in the car!
my clutch had gone so replaced it.
Luckily I decided to change the release bearing when I noticed the whole arm had cracked and was bent. so got a new one of those only a tenner so cheap as chips.
Having seen how they can fall apart I’d recommend changing that at the same time as the clutch.
Mine had become more difficult to engage gear towards the end of the life of the clutch.MikesMemberAhhhh it’s a dual mass flywheel, is it worth fitting a new one as it’s obviously a little worn after 300,000 km or try and fit a standard flywheel and clutch?
many thanks for the help so far and any future help.
MikesMikesMemberPhew, it all came off. and I’ve got the clutch out, now just need to get a new one, and fit it.
guess it’s a trip to euro parts!
what torque would I need to do up that driveshaft bolt on the 6mm hex?
right off to the pub for a pint to celebrate!MikesMemberI still can’t seperate the transfer box despite removing the rear drive housing & pinion gear. It feels like the shaft that has the front driveshaft flanges is still physically connected to the gearbox & it’s opposite driveshaft flange. And i don’t want to prise or wack it without knowing how it’s supposed to seperate
I took off the bolts which attach the transfer box to the gearbox and when I try to prise it apart the driveshaft flange for the front drive shafts stops it from comming away, it feels sprung, and there doesn’t appear to be any way of removing the driveshaft flange.
???????MikesMemberCut it all out and then re weld it, I had to do some thing similar to my brother in law’s golf.
Make sure to seam weld everything after or they won’t like it.
I had snapped off the bolt on the lower suspension arm and cut off the Vw spot welds then re did it. And the Mot man failed me, even tho I’d welded it back exactly as it was!
Hope you manage it.
