Thanks for the first info. Let me explain some more [:)].

I have a modelyear 1987 (with the front mirrors halfway on the door), according to the VIN number it was built in 1987, it is a completely standard car, so with a rod change ‘box.

My biggest concern is the right front wheelside joint. I’ve been looking around on ebay.de, a certain CV joint fits on the left wheelside of a syncro, but not on the right side… This CV joint can be used on the right side of a non-syncro mk2…

Basically I want to know if there is indeed a difference between the left and right wheelside CV joint of an old syncro.

    Thanks again for the info!

BTW: since the prices on ebay.de are so low for CV joints, I’ll be replacing all four joints, not just the boots [:)]

Perhaps weird question: how many miles (kilometers) had this transfer box done?
Does it happen often that they break relatively easily? I suspect you didn’t perform a full on standing start when it broke ;)

Thanks Chris, I’ll look into them!
I also looked on http://www.doppel-wobber.de for the original mk2 colours, but those samples are a bit too small…

This is the best pic of the car I have before it being sanded down: http://meijans.hyves.nl/fotos/164671956/0/nrjE/

By the way, normally a Golf has a sticker in the boot with the chassis number, colour code and all the factory options. Should it also be there in a syncro?? I couldn’t find it, and off course, the service manual is missing on such an old car (first registered in ’89, although it appears to have been built in ’87).

I was thinking the same really, but now the next challenge is to find the colour code of that one…

Anyone an idea on how to do that??

Hi everyone, my name is Michiel. I’m from across the pond (Holland) This is my first post on a foreign forum [:)] .

I recently bought my brother’s ’87 Mk2 Golf syncro and I’m having some plans with it… Hope to find most info here, since the syncro community isn’t that big…

The other car I’m working on is a ’85 Golf GTI with a G60 engine.
