whilst I hesitate to recommend them, I used to get springs direct from avo in northampton… as in off the shelf items, but they were for coilovers, but they also did regular shocks/springs as far as I know so might be worth a try. Sorry no number to hand…google avo northampton.

I’ve got avo rallye shocks and springs on my syncro… as far as I know rallye == syncro suspension.

ah ok thanks les – sorry yes I was thinking diff-lock meant changes to the diff but it’s all done with the abs…

tbh I’m happiest without the computers interfering in the driving – at that level at least.

Are you talking about syncro busses here or did they do EDS on the golfs & saloons too?

    mate’s house is a good idea…

simply being able to leave it overnight in relative safety would probably make it a lot less of a headache.

tbh I think the overriding thing here is that this is potentially a bigger job than it looks and may not be something you’d want to attempt in the street with either method. Whereabouts are you based?

Sounds like you could do with a competent syncro-friendly garage….

I have no idea how anyone manages to do transfer box etc from underneath, even on the gti it’s easier to take the motor out to fiddle with clutch + box. Plus then you can see all sides of the engine and have room to work.

I find it’s an afternoon to take the motor out and another to shove it back in.and generally less grazed knuckles and paintwork.

    hope that helps a bit.

    Hope that helps.

that’s a bit out of order and do apologise – I’ll have a word with chris, he normally trims the inactive members. As far as I was concerned you were a long-standing member. I did notice that you had “newbie” status but the penny didn’t drop at the time.

Unfortunately I don’t know whether the user status can be restored, but I am looking into consolidating the less active sections of the database and I think that will mean editing the database by hand so I’ll should know more about what’s possible once I’ve been through that.

Everybody is ok – sorry it wasn’t to be melodramatic… more like crossed wires and frayed nerves leading to “tension”. I think they’re all a little bit syncro’d out for the moment so we might have to look stuff up in etka ourselves for a little while.

god it better only be a little while – I’m halfway through building a car…(allegedly)
