I honestly have no idea what it is at this point. I thought I knew, till yesterday. it’s a kr, 16v motor just like my other one which i thought (both) were k-jet but withther that’s KE or something else I have no clue.

either way once again with chris on skype I hooked up the fuel system, the pumps all now randomly work the way they’re supposed to. The pressure pump used to stay running as soon as connected but now it totally does what it should (by some miracle).

I found a plug near the fusebox which matched the plug on the ISV loom which was yet to be plumbed in. There was another random green wire which seemed to fit to a socket very close to the first plug (like they were supposed to be next to each other) so plugged that in. There was another b+w connector which I’ve plugged in to some wires which were dangling around nearby and happened to have the same connector.

That left us with one black (cut) wire from the ISV loom and not much clue what to do with it. Chris figured somehow it might be for ignition hot so for now it’s plugged into the main +ve input on the fusebox and we’ll figure out what ingnition hot means later.

nothing caught fire when we turned it on which was encouraging, and it turned over too.. I think I flooded it earlier by running whilst having forgotten the main lead to the dizzy and by then we were short on batterey.

either way I cranked it till the end and we actually got a couple of splutters before the battery died.

the battery is now charged and I’m gonna have another go… is this the day it runs?

it turns over now o/ seems to have just been corroded connections on the starter etc. cleaned it up and it turns over fine now :D

Gonna hook up the fuel system (externally) and see if that helps get closer.

I have yet to figure out where the little wiring loom for the ISV goes, I have one and without it I’m sure it won’t run, but i just need to find where to plug it in and then we might really be in business.

stands to reason I guess it’s been stood a long time. Proboably corroded in all sorts of ways.

I didn’t really have time to try that yesterday but I did when I was testing it previous times.

I’m *sure* I’ve been in this exact situation before (which this car) and it was something daft like an earth strap, or the little brass tube which the end of the cog-shaft goes on. Re the earth thing I recently added a big earth strap straight from the battery to the gearbox so I don’t think that should be the issue this time. Will check the circuit tho.

When I pulled the starter last time the solenoid would engage and the motor would turn but wasn’t terribly enthusiastic…but then the battery was rubbish.

I think I’m going to have to go back to basics and pull the starter again, test it, perhaps get it checked so I know it’s good, but also make sure that the flywheel goes round properly etc. This is something daft and minor and I *will* find it.

New battery finally arrived, charged and tested… starter still just does the same click-click-nothing. ah well :(

I guess next step is pull the starter and get it checked/recon’d.

no worries, will take it as it is :) if i can arrange for the body to get moved i will, but I don’t really fancy the chances to that happening. one estate-audi full of bits.. ideally engine and drivetrain I’ll definitely save tho.

if anyone has (smallish) bits they need saving as well I don’t mind picking them up either.
