Gone to a new topic- http://www.vwsyncro.co.uk/data/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3181
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberI did think about buying the parts, but invariably something is missing and I’ll end up spending money buying the little bits I forgot! I’d also have to change the gearbox. At least if I bought a complete car, everything should be there [], plus a few extras like the ABS and A/C [^]
With regard to ‘Black Smoke’, I was also thinking of fitting an LPG system to it. If you set it up for around 10% LPG it erradicates the black smoke as the mixture burns a lot better. It also improves the efficiency of the engine giving increased MPG or more omphh, depending on how you use your right foot! Search ‘Diesel LPG Conversion’ in Google!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberSounds like that could be a good idea!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberLooks like a trip to Germany to visit my Brother is in the offing!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberAnd they have the associated 1Z engine, all for a smidge under EUR1100! Is that good? I can’t see whether it has a wiring loom with it though.
Obviously I would like to get something a bit closer to home, but I could drive there and back in a day. Hmmm! Needs serious consideration.
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberBad news[] They fixed the bearing, but it turns out the reason it failed is due to the transfer box being b*ggered. We’d noticed when we changed the clutch last year that the transfer box had been repaired at some time and the internals must have been damaged and have finally given up the ghost[!]
Also the bearing mountings had gone but they can’t get a replacement bush. Does anyone know if they are still available somewhere?
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberVegard mentioned that the 1.9TDi block has squirters and the mounting lugs. Can anyone confirm this?
How do you identify a 1.9TDi block? Does it have any code numbers/letters like the petrol versions?
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberI assume you’ve tried Google.de and the like.
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberLooks like I’ve neglected this post for a while.
Although I fitted an alarm (Toad) I didn’t add the roof closure as I don’t use the roof because it is difficult to get it to close properly using the electric motors. I have to turn the nut with a socket to close it up and even then it doesn’t close properly and I’m frightened of breaking the gears!!!!
I think the vehicle would have been better fitted with a tilt/slide sunroof, but then the German gentry wouldn’t have been able to shoot out the top[]
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberI haven’t had time to fix the Country so have sent it off to my local independent VW specialist (C G Cars). I might get it back in time for the alleged ‘Big Snow’!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberWell I went and bought the Volex version. Looks quite neat. It sticks to the metal work around the window and has brackets that go under the window seal!
I don’t know whether to paint it first (Black) or leave it natural (Plastic Black)!
Only problem is that the instructions are in German and I can’t figure out where to route the brake light cable! Anyone good at translating German?
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberOhh! Might by that for myself for Christmas.
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberLooks like this will be a nice motor when it is finished.
I notice some of your pictures have gone!!!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberI have a suspision that it is number 14! I’ll have to take it off and see!!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberI’m sure the adjustable headlights are listed as standard in the brochures, but I don’t remember ever seeing anything about adjustable steering column.
