ModeratorI hope you reccomended us to the new owner?
Chris S
ModeratorYes, just put some new cam followers in and it will shut the noise up

or you could possibly try this? in conjunction with an oil & filter change of course.

If you do fit the new followers? it might be an idea to fit a new cam belt at the same time! [

Moderatorbtw, The numbers you are quoted are casting numbers and not part numbers.

ModeratorThe GX head has the same valves as the GU motor, the inlet valve is the the (important) one with the larger size, the cams are also different, but are nothing special, the GX cam is the same as the G60 cam, and can be be replaced with a sharper one.

Do you know his name/contact details please?

ModeratorIt is the same carb, its only the air filter that is different.
Chris S
ModeratorApart from any casting differences the GU has smaller valves for a start.

ModeratorHe has a Weber fitted

ModeratorThe early type electronic traction control Elektronischer Differentialsperre (EDS) only works on the front wheels,
Thats electronic differential lock (EDL)in English
and the reason that it only worked on the front wheels is that it was basically designed for the 2wd system & not specifically for the Syncro, and lets be honest about this the rear wheels cant spin if they are nor driving can they? te he [
]I am not sure but I don’t think VW system worked on all 4 wheels until the Golf 4 or maybe the Golf 5 with the electronic stability program (ESP)
Quote, Personally I would think you would get more advantage from fitting it to the rear!
I quite agree with you on this Clive! [

ModeratorMotor code 1H/PG has 100mm joints, all of the lesser powered are 90mm up until 1990 when VW rationalized them and fitted 100mm inner joints to all the Golfs.
Chris S
ModeratorLeft inner is p/n 1K0 498 201 cost at VW 30 eu ish
Right inner is p/n 191 498 202A cost at VW 30 eu ish
Both outer are p/n 321 498 203A cost at VW 25 eu ish
Thats for a 1H/PG motor

ModeratorPut a PB head on, the manifold(s) etc bolt straight up all you need to do is to block the injector ports (with pennies)
total extra cost = 4pChris S
ModeratorThe Rallye one has the same PCD as the G2/G3 Syncro, so it looks like its probably going to be the TT one.
Chris S
ModeratorThey have same part number as the Rallye Golf
