The G2 Syncro drum brake cables are 1580mm
The G2 2WD drum brake cables are 1535mm, 45mm too short
The 2WD G3 drum brake cables are 1495, 85mm to short
The G3 Syncro drum & disc brake cables are 1592mm, 12mm or 1/2 an inch longer than the original ones,
I think that these may be the ones to go for,
p/n 1H0 609 721B for drum brakes
or

ModeratorPascal will know the answer to this!
Chris S
ModeratorWhich one? or all 3?
191 803 309F front section – Dropped without replacement on 01-07-2008
191 253 731B centre section – still available from VW
191 803 309D rear section – Dropped without replacement on 01-04-2007
Passat Syncro or Golf 3 Syncro parts may be adapted to fit if you cant get the correct ones.

ModeratorThe “normal” (4 cylinder type) transfer box & rear diff have 20/21 & 21/20 ratios, while the VR6 has a 16/21 – 21/16 ratio,
thus making them incompatable with each other.Chris S

Thats handy to know!

ModeratorYes, its the setup that I first fitted before I swapped over to 239x12mm discs, same carriers, same calipers, just fitted with a spacer ring to the carrier! [
]Quote,
You can also fit the 239×12 mm front discs as fitted to the Golf 2 1300cc to 1800cc models (55 to 90 bhp) to the rear of your Syncro, P/N 321 615 301
You will need to space the caliper carriers out from the swing arm (as the brake disc less offset) I find that the Golf 2 Diesel exhaust manifold washers are ideal for this P/N – N 900 955 01 [
]This may also help,
Golf 4 aluminium calipers will also fit and do give better performance and have the bonus of a none seizing handbrake mechanism,
p/ns 1H0 615 423B left & 424B right, you will need to modify the brake pipe caliper end as the G4 uses a different fitting, but its not difficult all you need a male to male adapter piece.Chris S
ModeratorSo who bought them then? please tell
btw, I did e-mail a few friends who may have not seen this post before it would have been too late.

ModeratorFrom 1986 to 88 they were all 68mm, from 1988 on they were 72mm but
I have seen a Rallye with 68mm and ALL Rallyes were built in 1989,
Also my first G2 Syncro (a 1988 model) had the 72mm rear bearings
