ModeratorWhat size brakes do you have on the front?
as the 239mm uses a different caliper mounting set up to the 256mm &
280mm ones, but Either way its a standard 2wd Golf item.
Chris S
ModeratorThis is how I did mine, with a flexy pipe from the beam to the swing arm, then a hard pipe along the swing arm to a 2nd flexy & a short piece of hard pipe from the 2nd flexy pipe to the caliper.
There are probably more elegant ways of doing this but I was working with what pipes etc I had to hand.
btw, do you not need disc backplates in Norway? – P/N 191615611C [

Moderatorok so no shipping to you, but it gives you an idea of what you want, if you like they can be sent to me here then on to you?
re cables
The Golf 3 Syncro drum & disc brake cables are 1592mm, 12mm or 1/2 an inch longer than the original ones,
I think that these may be the ones to go for,
p/n 1H0 609 721B for drum brakes
or
p/n 1H0 609 721C for disc brakesChris S
ModeratorNo, your best bet is Golf 4 aluminium calipers (rears) like these
cables here

Chris S
ModeratorExactly the same way but with vertically instead of horizontally mounted plates
Chris S
ModeratorThats why you need the camber adjusters
Chris S
ModeratorYou can check the sensor with a multimeter & a stiff piece of wire
First remove the sensor, set the meter to conductivity & connect the leads to the center terminal & earth, then poke the wire up the hole (you will feel resistance as you push against the pressure spring) & see if the meter reading goes from zero to 1 or vice versa, if it does then the switch is good.

ModeratorI forgot to mention that the blue oil pressure switch is activated when the pressure drops below 0.25 bar.
the other oil pressure switch for the oil warning light is activated at either 0.9 (Grey), 1.4 (black) ot 1.8 (white) bar depending which switch you have fitted.
btw are we talking 8 or 16 valve here? my reply was for an 8 valver, & then I thought about whats in your stable! [
]Chris S
ModeratorThe oil pressure switch is P/N 028 919 081H
its Blue & its a single pin and its mounted on the flywheel end of the cylinder head. The gauges are available from here http://www.duostyling.com/frames.html
Chris S
ModeratorIt should indicate an oil pressure/pump failure (less than 3 or 5 psi iirc), but yes could be a wiring issue esp given the age of the wires/connections, do you have a seperate oil pressure readout? if not then it might be time to get one, poss something like this?

ModeratorThe drive shafts will hold that without any problems, its the reliability of the transfer box that is the problem.

ModeratorLets be honest for a moment, and say that no one, including me & the few other Syncro Gurus, knows everything about the VW Syncro/Audi 4 motion systems in all its various guises,
whether its Passat, Golf, T25, T3, T4, T5 or whatever we can only do our best to the best of our knowledge, which I am sure that we all do!
And I am also quite sure that sometimes we do get it wrong,
ho hum such is life! [
