ModeratorWhen the transfer box bevel gears let go its like a hand grenade going off, and so it has to be completely replaced, usually along with the gearbox, which will also be full of metal splinters, but dont worry as it does not happen very often!

ModeratorThe main problem(s) with the VR6 Syncro are the front transfer box & rear diff, not because they are weak or not up to the job in any way, only because they are so expensive & difficult to find if you ever need to replace either of them.
(the VR6 uses different ratios in the transfer box & rear diff to the 4 cylinder Syncro models and they are only interchangable as a pair)
But with only 88,000 miles on the clock you should have no worries about that for a long time yet!

ModeratorI just looked at this http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk/cars/vw/product.jsp?ref=3181&model=25&series=137&type=3
& Unfortunately I think it is very unlikely to fit to either a Golf2 G60 or Syncro as they both have a higher transmission tunnel, which means that the carpet has to be deeper to fit over the hump. [

ModeratorThats a very kind & generous offer you are making there Trev, and its absolutely true to the spirit of this site, thank you! [^]
BTW, The front silencer is a direct replacement for the catalyst on GX engined cars.

ModeratorIf you put your foot on the brake pedal & then start the engine, you should feel the pedal drop a little, if not then you might have a vacuum leak in the servo,
if you blank the servo off then the brakes will work just the same but you will have to push on the pedal a lot harder,
think of the brake servo doing the same job for the brakes as power steering does to reduce the effort required to turn the steering wheel.Chris S
ModeratorWas the above link of any use?

ModeratorI will swap you a black lhd carpet (140.000 kms about 87.000 miles) for your grey rhd one,
each to pay their own postage costs! my carpet is in the same (or better) condition than the rest of my interior, however it does worry me a little bit that you have tried to die your carpet twice [:0]

ModeratorHurrah!

ModeratorQuote “Maybe you could PM me how much it would cost to have the same thing shipping to me?”
Too much!
First you have to find one, buy it and get it to me here in Holland,
I have to crate it up so its suitable for air freighting,
It is collected from me & taken to Schipol airport by the freighting company,
It is then flown to your nearest international airport, where you have to collect it and then pay U.S. import duty on it.Believe me its not cheap.

ModeratorHi Ben, If you contact James (jman on here, he lives in Portland Oregon) he may still have this which I shipped to him last year.

Yes, it is a complete Syncro rear floor pan. [:p]
Chris S
ModeratorAre you including the gearbox propshaft & driveshafts in that price? as per photo?
Chris S
ModeratorI will try not to miss it on ebay this time!
