ModeratorIts a balance weight, it is supposed to smooth out the power delivery & prevent chattering, it also acts as a heatshield.
if you need a new one? I have a good used one hereChris S
ModeratorFirst of all, your Rallye should have an ASU code gearbox, the CBC code box was only fitted to the Passat G60 Syncro from Feb 91 to Jan 93, if you check your transfer box casing you will see that it is made out of aluminium, the correct Rallye transfer casing is made out of cast iron.
As for the oil capacity,
02C cablechange box with code ASU 29059 onwards & all other cable change gearboxes 2.4 liters.
your gearbox has oilways & will automatically fill the transfer box up to the correct level

ModeratorThe Rallye has 100mm diameter front inner CV joints, thats p/n 321 498 103CX
The 90mm one as used on the propshaft is p/n 321498350 X and is the front inner CV joint used on the non G60 engined cars.

ModeratorI have just spoken to Peter at VW Classic parts & there are only 8 of them left + he is extreemly doubtful about being able to obtain any more,
so to save any problems for any members on here who would like one, I have bought all 8 of them!
They will be shortly be available from me (when I get back from holiday in portugal on the 6th of March)
btw, these heatshields were fitted as standard by VW to the 160 bhp Golf & Passat Syncro and also of course to the Rallye, so it would seem to be a good idea to fit one if you are going to have a more powerful than standard engine.
I just noticed that is my 4000th post in just short of 8 years [

ModeratorWill they not give you discount if you say vou are a member a recognised VW owners club as in VW Syncro.co.uk ?
it has worked in the past at various VW main dealers.

http://www.volkswagen-classic-parts.de/bestand/bestand_int.pl
enter the part nr where it asks for teilenummer

ModeratorThe CV joint is the same as the 90mm front inners P/N 321498350 X its only the boot which differs,
be careful with pattern part cv joints though as the VW part has a machined groove so the boot flange can sit on the outer race of the joint, while the pattern part I bought a few years ago didn’t, which meant that the boot would not sit correctly on the joint.

ModeratorThe Country rear drum brakes are the same as the normal Syncro rear drum brakes.
For adjuster part numbers, See here
(Please read the FULL thread before going to the VW dealer)

For a disc brake conversion you need to start with a pair of these

btw the price asked for the caliper carriers is for a single item & not for a pair!
