The pins we are talking about on the 020 Gearbox (which you have) are not external pins, but are internal

    p/n 191919823D 7 pin – 191 919 823D – switch – Genuine Part € 44.01

    P/n 191919823B 8 pin – 191 919 823B – switch – no longer available

both switches will fit the plug on your wiring harness.

The 2 or 4 pin plugs mentioned below are only for the 02C gearbox (Rallye, Passat G60 Syncro) & they are not compatable with either your gearbox or wiring harness

    02A 919 823B dropped without replacement on 01-01-2007

02A 945 413C 2 pin version available – For the 2wd Passat & supposedly for the later (93 on) Golf & Passat VR6/TDI Syncro models

If your new switch works please will you send me your old one, as these switches are getting very rare & not every one is suitable for rebuilding.

Apologies not necessary, as no one took offence.

I can do the switch exchange if you like? As long as you send me your old switch when you have swapped them over.

I have just seen that 1 of the switches are still available at

I would think that (as usually happens) it is the reverse switch (on the gearbox) that is giving the problems, they do wear out you know, even if it has taken 25 years!

They are no longer available from VW but I can rebuild your own switch for you with new springs etc for 30 euros + postage

With regard to the response time,

    Please Note,

That we all give up our leisure time to try help each other out, some of us (as you do) have to work, some of us (like myself) are retired, however most of us do have a life apart from these forums, which sometimes takes precedence over anything posted on here,

Be assured that we will all do our best to help you out, but sometimes you just have to wait untill the right person comes along!

You can still post your Syncro Sandrail/Dune Buggy build photos etc on here, as I am quite sure we will find it of interest.

I am sure you will, don’t Sandrail/Dunebuggys use flat 4 aircooled motors?

If so you may be looking for T3 Syncro parts

I think that most, but not all of us will be aware of the vast difference in performance between Summer & Winter tyres
