Patrick, if you want to start re building gearboxes I have a load of original VW gearbox parts from when I used to re build them, chat about it when I get back.
Without telling them the correct figures, you could just ask what preload they set the front bearing to & also what torque they tightened the rear drive flange to!
Make sure to ask for the specific numbers that they set things to, cos I will bet they do not have the correct figures, if even any figures at all [
]They probably have not reset the preload on the bearings properly, or torqued up the rear drive flange to the correct figure (which is a massive 350 newton meters (with pre oiled threads)) that 258 lbs/foot.
You really need to have the manual to rebuild a transfer box,

4 hybrid driveshafts,
Hybrid propshaft & donuts
Haldex rear diff
Haldex controller
wiring harness for the above
Modified rear crossmember (to fit the Haldex rear diff)
New gearbox mount
New gearlever & linkage& I think there will be more stuff needed as well, its not a job for the faint hearted.
