The LHD Syncro uses something like this (well mine does anyway)
Right Hand item is std LHD G60 Syncro Manifold & Downpipe,
it shouldn’t be to difficult to adapt something like this to a RHD 16 valver []Chris SModeratorYes that is also a possibility, but I more like the idea of the tank breather being blocked, it happened to me once on a Golf 2, it was about 8 years ago and I had forgotten.
To test for this just drive along till the car starts really playing up and wont go any further, then stop and remove the petrol tank cap you may hear air hissing into the tank as you unscrew the cap, I know I did, my cure was to drill a 1/mm hole in the filler cap.Chris SModeratorEither PB, PF or RV they are all the same head & cam, Dannyp reckoned you can block the injector holes with a british penny, Got to be good value that one, job done for fourpence.
TC (diamond hell on here) has a carburettor Syncro with a GTI head & cam and a Weber 32/34 conversion, and he reckons it feels like it has 105 or so bhp instead of the standard 90bhp
Chris SModeratorYes exactly the same as the Rallye at the rear, the standard Syncro rear springs are known for weakening over time, its a common fault.
Chris SModeratorAfter all you dont want to end up like this []
Chris SModeratorWell physically it will fit, but the rubber bellows part on the correct (expensive) boot is hidden inside its metal case and on the normal CV boot it is a plastic Accordian type boot.
I personally have compared the two set ups side by side, and think it may help to extend your centre tunnel heatshield further back by pop riveting a thin piece of aluminium onto it, this should hide the longer boot from the exhaust heat, which will definitely shorten its life, and in a worst case scenario could cause it to melt or even catch fire. You will have to try this out for yourself as I am not sure it is a modification I can recommend!
as something like this

can really spoil your day [:0] [xx(]
Chris SModeratorThats correct that is only the shockers, The front springs and shockers are the same as any mk 2 or 3 Golf, its only the rear springs and shockers that are Syncro specific, btw you dont want to be lowering your syncro too much as it upsets all the suspension geometry and actually makes the handling worse rather than better!

Chris SModeratorChris SModeratorIf you fit the 8v GTI head (it has bigger inlet valves) as well as the cam, it will give a worthwhile increase to 100/105 bhp ish, what the cam on its own will do I dont know, but obviously not as much on its own.

can I fit the transfer box on a rallye to a 2wd gearbox? In a word NO! or only if you swap the bellhousing as well
I want to fit a 6 speed mk5 golf gearbox to my 20vt rallye
is this possible?2wd? not if you want 4wd.
perhaps the only option is to fit a 6 speed gearset to my rallye gearbox.
Correct.
The TT 6 speed and Haldex is not an option…too expensive/difficult.
any advice or ideas please?Chris SModeratorTry hammering it with a nylon or copper hammer, they can be really tight sometimes.
Chris SModeratorIts not the dirt in the tank thats causing the problem but the dirt in the carburettor!
Chris SModeratorI used fully synthetic in mine
Chris SModeratorYou can (if you know what you are doing) change the bearing in situ, using a length of 12mm stud bar and some big sockets instead of a press.
Chris SModeratorOK its 1 cm (10mm) per side increased track, which will just fit under without rolling the arches, Thank you,
