Wot no photo of your new (rather dashing i’m sure) suntan!
Just think, non Syncro owners have to got to spend all that time & money going to Spain or somewhere else warm & then lie on a beach for hours on end to get a suntan in January, while you only have to go as far as your garage, think of the savings you are making by not going to Spain, which of course gives you more of both time & money to spend on your beloved Syncro! some people are just lucky I guess.
Chris SModeratorAs for a value, I would suggest asking 500 pounds, as it looks rust free & is a very tidy car, it also has a full mot and the gearbox is quite an easy repair.
Chris SModeratorCan you e-mail me a photo of your carb set up please as I still dont think the electrics are connected up right
Chris SModeratorI have a couple of cast iron transfer box casings here if you want them? both are without oilways
Chris SModeratorThe cables cost 49.55 euros each & I have the switch listed at 47.12 euros, I will check the switch price on monday with the dealer, also the availabilty.
btw I ordered a set of Rallye handbrake cables for my rear axle conversion last summer & they were at the dealers the next day.
The postage to the UK will be a maximum of 20 euros possibly less, and there is a Paypal surcharge of 4% for international payments.Chris SModeratorThese are not VW springs, they are aftermarket ones, from someone like Powertech or Eibach, the VW springs are not progressively wound.
I did try VR6 Syncro rear springs but I felt that they they were just a little too firm.
Chris SModeratorIt is earthed through the manifold – head – block & through the engine earth cable back to the battery.
Check in your Haynes manual chapter 4 – 18, page 4A 21 this shows the hedgehog. []Chris SModeratorPassat 35i saloon any year, but make sure they have the closed coils at the top (same as the red pair shown sat in a box)

Suspension here – http://www.vwsyncro.co.uk/data/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1693
The front suspension is identical to the 2WD model and so is easy to replace/modify, while at the rear the Syncro axle & differential are nearly 100 kilos heavier than the 2WD version & the 2wd rear springs are not strong enough to manage the extra weight, you need a spring with a minimum wire diameter of 11.5mm to carry the Syncro rear end, cut down progressively wound Passat rear springs work a treat, see photos.
Chris SModeratorAccording to the VW manual
1) Tighten all 6 bolts finger tight
2) Tighten the 2 bracket to engine block bolts to 8NM (Newton Meters)
3) Tighten the 4 transfer box bolts to 25 NM
4) Tighten the 2 block bolts to 40 NMJob done
btw the transfer box arm bracket is 40 NM both endsChris SModeratorYou have to register
Chris SModeratorHold on a minute, these dont appear to be bike carburettors at all, they are only the throttle bodies as they all quote injector rates & a carb set up doesn’t have injectors!
Chris SModeratorGo injection, you know it makes sense. [}]
Chris SModeratorThat just shows how little your boyfriend knows about the Golf 2 Syncro! my last carb version returned overall about 31/32 mpg – thats nearly 7 miles to the liter.
my current injection Golf 2 Syncro is returning nearer 40 mpg – nearly 9 miles per liter.Chris SModeratorDoes the gear lever still feel like it is selecting the other gears or is it just flopping about & hanging over the side? if so it may be the linkage thats faulty.
You could put a new box in it or repair 5th gear, I think have all the parts needed to repair the 5th gear, you can have them for the cost of the postage if it helps?
btw the gearbox shouldnt need to come out for this repair! or you should be able to find a 2nd hand box for not more than 100 pounds -
