Well Les in Canada wants that Crossmember, but its rather a long way for him to come & cut it out for himself.
Chris SModeratorPlease get the boot floor out of the Syncro before it gets crushed, the rear crossmember is already at a premium & VW arn’t making them any more!
Chris SModeratorSpacers for the prop???
Chris SModeratorWhere is that Scrappy?
Chris SModeratorI also have no qualms over the pressure capabilities of the pipe material, only that the restricted return flow will increase the back pressure in the system causing problems with pump life (it has to work harder to mantain flow) and the risk of petrol leaks & fires etc
btw, if you look at your pressure regulator valve at the return end of the fuel rail you will see it is vacuum controlled to function when the engine is running.

Chris.I dont know which VAG technicians you spoke to? but unfortunately on the GTI motor there is a constant flow in the return pipe under normal operating conditions, it actually vents pressure from the fuel rail, thats the fuel rail not the mainfold, if it vented pressure from the manifold it would be called an air leak.
And what do you think it vents at 3 bar (45 psi)?
here is a clue, it vents the fuel rail, which is full of? yes thats it fuel, in this case petrol, the reason there is a constant flow is to cool the petrol so the system doesn’t vapour lock!Dont worry, we have had some ****er mechanics working at my VW Garage on occasion as well, who have also come out with the most outrageous statements ever.
Just stop & think for a moment, your car tyres are inflated to about 30 psi – thats 2 bar, you know how much pressure that is, now have you ever seen an air line split & spray compressed air everywhere like a demented elephants trunk? now imagine the same pipe with 50% more pressure and spraying petrol instead of air, doesn’t really bear thinking about does it, and it wont stop till either you kill the ignition or it runs out of petrol,
Now are you still happy with the 5mm return line? please change it for the correct one, we dont want to be losing another Syncro or you for that matter.Chris SModeratorUnfortunately there seems to be everything you might need here,

Chris SModeratorOh no,[] not another one. [xx(]
Chris SModeratorAnd some pretty hot girls as well from the look of things! [8D]
Chris SModeratorI dont know as it is not the original one, the original one was swapped out 2 years ago when it was thought to be the cause of a problem (it wasn’t) the rest of the car has 130,000 kilometers on it, thats just over 81,000 miles, and yes we took off quite gently as we had some fragile stuff on board as well as the gearboxes, after a quick look today it seems as though the 2 bearings holding the rear drive flange which connect to the propshaft donut have collapsed, probably caused by lack of oil, after all it only has 1/2 a liter to start with!
I will have a better look later in the week, when I get more time.Chris SModeratorWhat like this? http://www.vwsyncro.co.uk/data/forums/default.asp []
Chris SModeratorLuckily enough I only need my scooter to get to the scrappy, so we are still on for next week if the weather is ok.
Chris SModeratorI wouldnt mind but I had an complete 02C gearbox & 2 020 transfer boxes in the back! & all in working order, we had just collected them & were on the way to Wilco Schimmels (he of Haldex conversion kit fame)
As the motor is only making 125 bhp I was still running the 020 box, I was waiting till the new engine was ready and was going to fit the 02C box at the same time. []Chris SModeratorsorry, but I didn’t get there last week the weather was terrible, I will be there this week though, I promise.
Chris SModeratorNo problems, it was worth the wait!
