ModeratorIf you mean that when you spin the shaft (p/n 15) that the rear output flange (p/n 9) does not also spin?? that is normal as they are connected at all.
The splined end of the cogwheel in YOUR drawing right next to bearing 13 is connected by an internally splined hollow “Muff” which fits from there directly onto the outer side of the differential carrier and does not drive through the differential planet gears (which only drive the FRONT wheels)
In the drawing below (of an 020 transfer box, but it shows the set up better)the right hand front wheel flange (nr 25) is driven by the solid shaft nr 28, while the rear drive flange is driven direct from the crown wheel carrier nr 1 by the Muff nr 35 to the hollow shaft nr 16.The 02C transfer box works in exactly the same way as the 020 transfer box
Drawing 2

This shows where the muff fits directly onto the differential carrier & so drives completely independently of the drive to the front wheel(s)which is through the planetary gears (differential) [^]

ModeratorThe front swaybar… direct fit on the golf? I seem to remember it fouled on the golf triangles, but it was about 5 or 6 years back so I can’t exactly remember if there was a way round it or not.
Chris S
ModeratorThe rear drive flange spins independently and is driven by a splined collar `Muff` directly from the rear diff.
Have a look here http://www.vwsyncro.co.uk/data/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2479

ModeratorHi Kris, Have you seen the rear floor pan that jman has advertised on Vortex? I must be honest it was a right pain in the arse getting it crated up to ship to him!

ModeratorInto each life a little rain must fall, but its not a difficult or long job to swap the brackets over [

ModeratorAs you can see from the drawings below the Passat & Golf side mountings are similar (the Passat rubber mounts are thicker & tougher) so to mount the Passat axle to your Golf you will need to exchange parts nr 2,3,4,5,&6 from the Passat (top drawing) onto your Golf
The centre mount is very different & you need to remove parts nr 8,9,10,11,12,14 & 15 from the Passat Diff & replace them with parts nr 8,9,10,11,12,13,14,&15 from the Golf.
The drawings should explain exactly what I mean.

ModeratorYes, the diff is the same and you can swap the complete axle, you will need to change the complete Passat center diff mounting for the Golf one and the complete Golf side mountings (Both upper & lower) for the Passat ones, you will see why when you have them side by side.

ModeratorAll G2 Syncro models benefit from having the G60 type high transmission tunnel, the Syncro rear end is also stiffer than the 2wd shell as it has the extra crossmember/stiffening to cope with the rear driveline.
The Golf 2 G60 Syncro also has stiffer anti roll bars both front & rear as well as slightly stiffer spring/damping than the std 90/98 bhp models.
Chris S
ModeratorYou may need to swap the lower ball joint/swivels for the Passat ones, they are supposed to be the same from 1989 on but you never know what has been changed or modified in the 20 years or so since your car left Wolfsburg.
or if you are going wide track you can swap the complete triangles over. [

ModeratorI would suggest that it is possibly a magnesium alloy somewhat similar to an “ally” wheel, but I dont really know! [
]Chris S
ModeratorRe-weld or re-epoxy it then, make sure the epoxy putty is well mixed and the metal surface is totally grease free and you should have no problems, If you need any help shout!
