ModeratorThe best donor car will be a 8v GTI of the same year as your Syncro this will give you 112 bhp as standard, from 88 on the 8v gti was fitted with a Catalytic converter & a lambda sonde control circuit for the ECU,
Among other things you may need to change are
1) The in tank fuel gauge sender for 1 with an electric fuel pump + relevant wiring
2) An underfloor high pressure fuel pump + relevant wiring
3) The plastic fuel lines
4) The motor wiring harness
5) The air filter & ducting
6) The idle control valve & vacuum system
7) The inlet manifoldThen you must fit the
1) The relevant ECU
2) The fuel rail & injectorsPersonally, I think it would be a nightmare of a job
have you looked at this for help with tuning your Weber carb?

ModeratorHi Shinya, Any news on this yet?
Possibly you have a broken wire or an intermittent connection on your ECU plug, you could try spraying this with a switch cleaner/WD 40 type spray
Chris S
ModeratorI think that LD50 may possibly have one lying about in the shed,
btw the left & right hand drive silencer boxes are the same, its only the the Manifold & downpipe that are different.Chris S
ModeratorHas anyone got any advice on how to remove the old ones & fit the new bushes? – remove after cutting a slot in the old bush with a hacksaw blade, to refit lube with grease and press in.
Do I need to get the propshaft rebalanced after fitting? – No

ModeratorFor once the drawings in ETKA (of the pins & plugs) actually physically resemble the actual item, and the plugs are listed by the number of connections they have.

Scroll down past all the various models to Elekt.Verbind.-Elemente 1947>>
Model year 1989
Section 9 Electrical systems
all the individual wires, plug housings & individual electric connectors are listed there!

ModeratorIts only the vacuum sender that you need to change, as all G-lader motors have a similar 1 bar version.
Chris S
ModeratorHow broken? cos its a special one for the G-lader motor, I hope you saved the speedo from the Passat as it has the same vacuum sensor,
btw these are no longer available from VW and used to cost over 150 eu when they were last listed. [xx(]

ModeratorConsidering that VW last fitted a VC unit in 1997 before they switched to Haldex for the 1998 Golf models, I very much doubt that there is any one at VW who knows anything about its internals at all.
And if you also take into consideration that it was first fitted to a production VW in 1985, which must mean that the development work will have been completed in the early 80s, it then becomes even more unlikely that there is anyone remaining at VW who had any part in the design or developement work.
Chris S
ModeratorTo the best of my knowledge the only ones are available are from the VW dealers,
I am not sure if Les Burt has found an alternative though, you could contact him & find out,
while Montreal is not quite next door to you in Vancouver at least it is in the same country,
so you wont be paying any international shipping charges or import duty on parts!

ModeratorHi again Richie, Don’t worry its ok just to post a car for sale, but we would ask for an (optional) small donation if you (or your friend) do sell the car through this site, but again having said that any donation you may or may not wish to make is entirely your decision.
btw if you can’t post photos you can email them to me and I will place them in your for sale post for you, its not a problem.
