AdemaxxParticipant
Yes yours do look like they have been Heli-coiled, don’t know why they have done that, there is a chance that by drilling the hole out to fit the heli-coils they have damaged the insert itself. The locking washers seem to have been removed from yours so don’t know why they didn’t spot it was an insert. You could still try and remove the inserts, good luck and thanks for putting the picture up.
AdemaxxParticipantCan you take pictures of your coupling for me to see what has happened to it?
AdemaxxParticipantIf you can’t see inside your coupling then your inserts are still in there!, try to remove the locking washer from the top, then use some sort of bolt extractor to remove the insert, I shall take some pictures on the weekend if you find it hard to understand what I mean.
AdemaxxParticipantThe threads that hold the inserts in must have stripped then. Only way I can see of doing it is to drill them out bigger then have new inserts machined to fit.
Can you see inside the coupling through the holes?AdemaxxParticipant
In this picture you can see the inserts are removed from 2 of the holes. I can take more pictures but this is what I had on my pc to show you.AdemaxxParticipantquote:

yes those three threads. Thanks for advice. No problem mate, I can take pictures of the insert if you like, I know the outer thread of the insert is the same thread as a spark plug.
AdemaxxParticipantWhat threads have stripped? Is it the 3 holes in the viscous coupling??? If so they are threaded inserts, you can remove the locking washer from the end of the coupling (looks like a star washer) and extract the insert. I had to have one machined for my coupling.
AdemaxxParticipantHow much did they cost you to be custom made??
AdemaxxParticipantI have one of the ECU’s off Chris on my Country and I am impressed with how well it goes.
AdemaxxParticipantDid you contact him re2???
AdemaxxParticipantAs it goes yes the fella (teile333) offered me a set of rears, I think they were the same price because he offered me the full set shipped from Germany for EUR660, I paid EUR330 for the fronts so must be same. Chris the part number off the shock is 22-219589. Here is the listing for the fronts that I seen…..http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290797151202?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649, I was a bit gutted because these actually sold for less than the price I agreed with him. He had 2 sets of fronts not sure how many rears he had. Also said he had the front spot/fog lights with grilles.
AdemaxxParticipantMy new front shock absorbers arrived today, I managed to get a pair from Germany for £280 including shipping. Nearly half the price VW Heritage quoted me for 1.[:0][:0][:0]
AdemaxxParticipantThe diesel engine he wants back it is missing the timing belt and fuel pump, it has the standard petrol syncro gearbox and running gear. I think it is a bargain Chris, its worth more in parts than the price i’m paying, but as I said I would much rather try and save it and put it back on the road.
AdemaxxParticipantYes it is complete Chris, it currently has a diesel engine in it, but a petrol carb engine comes with the car, along with 3 doors and a few other bits and pieces. I would like to put it back on the road as they are getting so rare now. but if it is too bad I may be forced to scrap it for parts. Looks like it’s a bargain either way.
AdemaxxParticipantI think it has been there for over 6 years, I’ve been offered it for less than £500.
