But that would still require me to split my tranny, right? I don’t think I’m ready for that yet…. Can’t afford to mess it up.

That’s what I was looking for….more trouble than it’s worth right now.

If I changed the final drive, wouldn’t I need to change it in the rear diff as well?

This issue is very common with drum brakes. I’ve even seen this happen to newer (2-3 years old) cars that have been parked for a length of time.

Mine does this also, sometimes only after being parked overnight when it’s raining. A little shove and she’s off again, and I had no problems with my last inspection as far as the brake test was concerned, so I assume they’re fine. :) Just the old girl showing her age again.

You’re right about the axle nut torque. When I first got the car, I noticed that the axle nut was loose, so I tightened it to the specified torque, but the damage was already done, so I was just buying myself some time by doing so.

    ***UPDATE***

Guess what? Now the OTHER front wheel bearing is bad…who would have thought? lol.

why wouldn’t you just use a normal FWD Golf for this?

The only 80 I’ve ever seen with Quattro was the Coupe… and if the Audi is the same as the Golf Syncro, the floor pans are probably completely different.

I am holding off on the brake upgrade, until I have the money to do it proper.

I thought all MKII 8v cars had 239mm, except for GTI and cars w/ ABS…

Is this going to cause any issues?

    cheers

Looks like you’re going all out. I would love to get my hands on a Rallye, but I could never afford one. :(
