I was actually referring to the exhaust system itself. The Supersprint exhaust is a bit pricey, and it’s designed for big bumper cars. :(

I’m happy to know that someone is working on a header for the syncro. :) Know who it is, by chance?

The reason that no one is interested is probably because TT doesn’t make a Syncro exhaust, and would need one of us to send them a complete exhaust to make them. (unless that’s been taken care of already)

To my knowledge, no. The G60 cars use a specific windshield, held in place by a special adhesive, which makes the windshield a part of the structural integrity of the car.

I’m sure it would fit, but the question is, how well?

When did powerflex burn down? How did that happen? :(

IIRC, 8v GTIs have the same brakes as any other Golf. The only thing that may be different with an 8v GTI is vented discs, which will swap right over, but you need to make sure that you get the correct brake pads for them, since the vented discs are wider, so they need a thinner pad.

I’m not sure about Europe, but in the US, the Jetta GLI (came only in 2.0 16v) had the larger 10.4″ front brakes, which are somewhere between those found on the base Golf, and the ones found on the G60/VR6 cars.

Personally, I would prefer to just use the big valve head & G-Grind cam from the GTI, and get yourself a nice Weber DMTL carb. You will be right up there with the Digi2 engine power wise, and have a much less complicated setup to boot. (not to mention that Digi2 is a pig to get running right once it starts acting up)

I have a DMTL on my ’86 Syncro, and I must say it made a HUGE difference in how the car feels. I’m sure I picked up a few HP as well, due to the big difference in the size of the ports in the carb versus the Pooburg 2E2. The throttle response in incredible, which IMO is something that fuel injection is still lacking in, and you can’t beat the sound of a weber topped with an open element K&N filter. (except maybe with dual Weber DCOE’s)

I would have to say yes.

It’s been done to convert MKIII Jettas into coupes several times. It involves moving the C Pillar rearward, and using coupe doors, and coupe rear sheet metal.

The 2wd-Syncro conversion has also been done in the US several times, since they have no choice but to do it, since the Syncro Golf and Jetta were never available in the US. Most of the threads I’ve seen on this subject were VERY time consuming projects.

How hard is it to change an engine and transmission compared to all the welding, cutting, and fabrication involved in making a 2wd into a Syncro?

I vote to find a syncro shell, and start from there.

I thought the correct answer for “how do I convert my _____________ to a syncro?” was:

    “LOL!”

Wouldn’t it be easier/cheaper to just get a Syncro?

I find it funny that the PS Rack for the Syncro/Rallye came out of the US, considering they never got either of them. :)

The carb you want for your car is the weber DMTL.

Fast Road Cars http://www.fastroadcars.co.uk/ sells complete kits for your car to ditch that nasty Pierburg.

Great people, very helpful. Will deal with them only for all my Carb needs from now on.

Here’s my DMTL, topped w/ a K&N Open Element Filter

Here’s a comparison of the two carbs, notice how much simpler the DMTL is compared to the 2E2. Also notice how much larger the ports are on the DMTL. :)

The kit they sell comes with everything you need to install the carb. (even a new petrol filter!)

Wow, I was just about to post a thread asking about that clunk while reversing. I’m glad it’s normal. I can relax now.

Also glad to know that you know how to rebuild the reverse switch, since I’ve noticed that it’s waaaaay different from any other 020 Reverse switch. :)
