wow so many wires!
ok so I’m not sure if the old immobiliser/alarm is what’s preventing me from getting power where it’s needed but Iv’e spoken to a friend who’s going to take a look at it for me. That does mean I have to get the syncro to his workshop, but I think once there he should be able to get it to run. Which would be amazing.
Currently it’s not really movable so I’ll need to figure that out first but then we should be getting close to some action
just by pass it at the ignition, itll be the black wire cut into the thick red wire on the ignition switch,

cheers nutter I’ll have a look. I threw my back out recently so haven’t been able to do anything on the car anyhow in the mean time
bit more progress today. mostly stuff to prepare for being able to start it.
I definitely now have all the little hose clamps and whatever I need to assemble the fuel system in a way which should handle pressure which means we’re almost done on that.
It’s also now got a set of 4 matching wheels on too on good yokis. I do kinda like the idea of the mud+snow tyres from the audi on there tho I’d have to jack it up a bit due to the size of them (plus adapters and whatever..so prob stick with the 4 on there..).
I also put a bit of oil down the spark plug holes and in the filler hole, turned the motor by hand to check everything was in good shape there and circulate a bit of oil. I thought it was all seized up but then realised it was just in gear. Once released it turned over very smoothly and seemed to make compression, so hopefully I can now go ahead and muck around with wires, and if by some miracle I get it to start then i know I’m hopefully not scoring pistons or whatever.
so basically next stop we’re back to wires I think.
I thought about it and screw the alarm, it’s coming out completely. I liked the remote central locking but it’s not gonna stand between me and starting this thing.
so…wires
lots of wires. watch this space
oh wow – I just replugged a few things in the back of the fuse box whilst trying to remove the alarm… and whaddya know, relays start clicking and it lives. Apparently the alarm & remote c. locking is still working. nice
Now I just have to put the door servo back in because I just finished removing it.
I was able to disable the alarm and hit the ignition and the starter made clicking sounds. Not bad progress at all.
so I got the door servo and stuff back together ok, and I think just a freshly charged battery and we could be at the point of it turning over. I gave the starter a few whacks with the hammer to check it’s loose and I can hear the solenoid engaging but I think there was just not enough power to try and start it (or perhaps the starter’s kaputt).
At this point though the remote central locking + alarm/immob seem to work, dash lights come on and look relatively normal and it goes to start (solenoid engages and click but nothing more.
Sadly my current battery charger expired recently, and the jump leads wouldn’t reach from the audi so I’m waiting on a new charger before I can try again.
There’s still definitely some crazyness with lights being on which probably shouldn’t be on but then it’s still got half its electrical guts hanging out so I suppose that’s to be expected to some extent. All in all I’m finding it’s actually in pretty good shape. which is nice.
I still have the little loom for the ISV (which I have along with the controller) to plug in but as yet I’ve not found where it goes so any input there is welcome. I’m pretty sure without that it won’t run anyway but even getting it turning over would be a start.
It’s hard to express how excited I am at the prospect of this.
at long last…IT LIVES o/
Are you using K(e)-jet or Digifant?
k-jet, the whole lot is standard kr
so today I just got time to whip the starter out and test it directly on the battery. Seemed to do the solenoid thing and turn ok so it’s not seized which is a good start. It wasn’t exactly enthusiastic but i had been trying the starter already and it hadn’t started with a full charge anyway.
When back in the car though it still just makes the click noise from the solenoid but no turning. There is almost a second click though so I think it’s trying to do it, but not managing somehow. The fit of the starter seemed ok too – not like it was wedged on an ill-fitting gear or something. It all came apart easily and went back together easily. given how long it’s been standing I forget how well prepared this engine etc is
The charger arrived today but it’s not had a full charge yet. There’s a good chance the battery’s toast too so it could be either that, the starter, the wiring or any combination of those I guess.
I need to get some longer jump leads so I can try jumping it from the audi and/or a new battery I guess.
I have a g60 starter sitting there which looks like it might fit too. The 16v one looked noticably bigger
aha ok, battery doesn’t hold a charge. don’t have a spare so it’s another patience challenge till I can try again..
battery damaged in transit.. 1 week delay for no reason… arg.
eta tues.
What a bugger
yeah waiting is not easy!
now nearly 2 weeks later… I’ve had 2 batteries sent, and both damaged in transit…and re-ordered a third time from a diff place.. hoping perhaps for a delivery tomorrow but also not counting on it.
