Cheers LD50, coming together now. Weather dependent hopefully I’ll bolt the rear beam on tomorrow. I’m going to have to take the wheels off again I reckon, either that or try to jack the rear of the car higher so I can roll it under. (Mudguards are in the way!)

Just want to get it on now, run the last bit of brake lines and get it mobile again!
I’d agree on the discs to the eye look thicker than 10mm

Rear dampers on with (in case you’ve forgot..) new genuine springs and powerflex bushes. Rear end of prop tomorrow i think, or connect handbrake cables up.

Question on that.. my old one were routed any old way, i presume the correct way is over the beam and down between the ‘Y’ of the trailing arm?

Also noticed looking at the pics that ive dented the disc splash guard a bit… will have to straighten that out

This last section of prop was surprisingly hard to get in!! Lots of curse words were uttered..
Put on with new CV boot and nice Rallye counterweight donut ?

Couple small jobs today due to rain, handbrake cable hooked up and secured. And the vac and breather lines attached to the freewheel. After sticking the breather up into the chassis (as it was when taking apart) i found an old thread on here where its meant to be put into the harness sleeve. So i think thats a good idea, will change that shortly..

It’s coming along at a good pace! Last bits of brake pipes put in ( from bias to front to rear pipes)
Just adjust handbrake and fill up with brake fluid and it’s all a go go!

    It’s alive!!!
Gave the brakes a gravity bleed with the bias valve held open, need to give it a go with the power bleeder now to get rid of what should be some trapped air and return some pedal to me.
On a strange note, it really felt like the brakes were binding, jacked up the rear and the wheel wouldnt move.. Traced it to the spacer that i fitted to the caliper carrier now making the carrier hit the disc!? God knows how that happened!?… Anyway, removed them and all is good. Handbrake adjust up nicely, just need to give it another tweak now its settled. Now just all the gremlins to iron out…

Been out driving it this afternoon, after giving the brakes another bleed. Still not 100% but a LOT better. Does drive very nice with no creaks or groans 😀 and i think the ride height is quite nice too..
one thing that isnt right is the handbrake. Rallye cables are meant to be 1600mm long, after adjusting mine they seem too long. im at the end of the adjustment on the cable and it still isnt really tight enough. A bit of research shows all the aftermarket rallye cables are listed at 1655mm long!? So, that would explain that!!
Golf3 syncro cable are meant to be 1592, but aftermarket ones seem to be listed at 1600mm… BUT, the outer length is 200mm longer on the rallye ones 1195 vs 995, so that could possibly make them too short… my head hurts!
Vw heritage sell rallye cables listed at near £40 each! but they are 1600mm… Not sure what ones to try, or wether i can do anything with the ones i have..

Lloydy, I just bit the bullet and purchased some Rallye handbrake cables for VW Heritage. I probably won’t be fitting them till later this month (too much work on) but I”ll let you know how I get on!

Ditto Andy, just bought them. Two of the right hand ones, as they are Gemo and have the ‘ball’ on the caliper end. the left hand one heritage sells has the same end as the ones i have now and is more expensive. I reckon these will solve the issue, should do anyway as the ones i have are 55mm longer!

Next little pet project, is fitting a spare wheel sub, a bose unit from a mazda and a small mono amp.
