Memberdude you’ve come this far – make a little bracket or something…
October 5, 2010 at 4:50 pm #7818Housey
Participantwell. going to have to look into that one
sick of being UNDER my damn car now :pOctober 5, 2010 at 6:11 pm #7819alexisblades
MemberA couple of cable ties onto the gearbox fixed it for me, same problem with passat cables being too long.

Participanti don’t have the heatshielding anymore. so i’m grinding the cables underneath the car aswell. thats one of my problems
oh well. need to find a solution. maybe weld in a stud, and use some rubber coated fasteners.. hmmlike these:

ParticipantI started a small project a while ago, the centre console I wanted to have my 3 gauges there, so I did some mods, which are documented earlier in this thread, and here is the result
Its a bad picture, but its hard to get a nice picture of it with flash, and theres not enough light in my bathroom to take the pic without flash
anyhow, I painted it black with a rattlecan with some spray that cracks up if its dried in a warm place (there for in my bathroom) :p
this is the outcome, looks way better in person then on the pic though
my valvecover is undergoing the same treatment now, only this in red
I just painted it half an hour ago, and there is about 48hours drying time on these parts

Participantaaaaaaand its finally back on all 4 wheels

here’s how the valvecover turned out, not finished tho. going to paint the insert of the VW logo blue

bought a new lower radiator hose, since the old one looked like **** and was rotten, and about to start leaking
new one installed, its a bit too long, but doesn’t matter, but its the right part

old hose, i’ve been cutting it to drain the water, but you can see that it have had a hard and long life
but the main part, its back on all 4 wheels

Did some other things today aswell. got the transmission filled up with fluid, filled the engine with oil. refilled the Powersteering. and changed the dip-stick funnel, as mine broke

oh, and another thing ive done today, replaced the subrame of my fathers 86 MKII golf, it was rusted beyond all that is normal. need to get this passed inspection so it can be sold

only things left on that one now is replace one of the rear shock absorbers, both brakehoses in the front, and both rear brakepipes
and it should be good to gopic of the 86’s engine bay, 1.6 carb
which hasn’t been cleaned for more then 7 years

Participantaaaand its almsot there

only missing the charger and some minor interior details (new speakers, bought as a complete set for the golf II, dash, door and rear speakers)

Participantsome bad news. my diff seems to hate me, and won’t let me drain and refill with fresh and new fluid

the drainplug is too damaged to get it opened
and at some point the diff has touched something hard while driving. and more or less fused te casing and drainplug together
tried using my dremel to reshape the 17mm allenkey hole. but didnt work, the hazet tool i used just wasn’t doing its job

damn this

Participantlalala. oh yeah, slow going
just started to fix the cog-wheel on the crank-pulley :p
it has been damaget at one point, and the serpentine pulley was wobbling like crazy. so need to adress that
probably gonna use some dowel-pins. if i could locate the proper ones here in norway

some pics..
my guess is that the oilseal has been changed, along with the cog-wheel. but reused the M14 centre bolt
no damage to the cog-wheel

MemberTry http://www.rosten-performance.com/ as they do a diamond-impregnated friction shim for just such a problem:

Participanti’m going to go with dowel pins
and will also make a DIY
if anyone else need this
October 28, 2010 at 7:02 am #7857Housey
Participanthah, finally got that stubborn drainplug for the rear diff out today
think this was a good thing. because i doubt the oil ever has been changed there before

Participantdoes anyone have any experience with aftermarket bushings? like powerflex etc?
seems that i should change all my rear axle bushings (all 6 of them) the one that holds the diff to the body is still in great shape
but the rest of them needs some help i can see. as they are pretty cracked and soft
