    Hi everyone.

    have a quick question for you all.

    is there anyway to get the Syncro to brake as a normal car?

    i’ve got a NON abs G60 syncro, and its downright dangerous in the snow/ice/slush.

    other cars i’ve driven, 4wd, fwd, rwd, with modern 4×4 systems and basic viscous systems brake and operate as normal..

    but not the golf.. if road conditions a bit slippery, it starts sailing almost instant when you apply the brakes.

    car runs on new Hakkapellittaa 7 stutted tires (185/55/15)

    there are nothing wrong with the brakes per say. operates as normal on tarmac.

    why is this so? my fiat scudo with a VC unit can actually stop when there is snow and ice. and many other Toyota Hiace 4×4 (VC) i’ve tried does the same..

    does anyone have any experience with this problem? i know most ppl here have “summerlike” conditions year round.. but not in this country

    Which master cylinder do you have fitted?

    but personally I would refit the ABS.

    22mm G60

    no refitting the abs here. parts are not obtainable, and its an old sucky system

    but, i did start thinking about something..

    when i lowered my car, i had the dealership readjust the proportion valve. i had to have them do it to have it approved.

    since then i’ve raised the car back to stock height, but i havn’t done anything abut that valve..

    so i should probably get myself some high pressure gauges and readjust (not paying the dealer, they have gone up in price on this, and now demand around 400€ for the job)

    could be that the rears either don’t have enough pressure, or they lock up too fast

    That might just be the problem!

    possibly all you need to do is get a photo of the activating arm in its normal position & set yours to the same angle?

    i don’t think thats the way to go. i believe that teh Bentley describes how to do it correctly, i know i have to get one or 2 highpressure gauges and put them on the rear calipers.
    then measure the pressure when the brakes are depressed. and adjusting accordingly

    could possibly be the problem, or could be something else. i’ll see sometimes in january, right now i’ve got the flu, so i’m not doing too much

    weeeellll..

    i did figure this one out…

    but i don’t know if i want to tell you what it was..

    oh well.. scew it. it was my own fault. a few years ago i relubricated the glidingpins on the caliper carriers..

    well. that grease had tried out, and everything was rusted stuck. so the only braking that happend back there was the pison pushing only one pad onto the disc. and that does not work too well

    got this sorted today.. got the pins out. cleaned them up and reassembled with new pads and using siliconegrease this time (the good stuff)

    probably won’t last forever since both the pins and the carriers are rusted. but should work a few years

    All brakes now properly? Was gonna say mine never really had problems like you describe…

    yes. it works as it should now

    that was the problem. two gliding pins was stuck on one side, and one on the other side.

    regreased it, and new pads did the trick. much safer when braking now. doesn’t swerve when i brake hard ;)
