Hello again. I’ve been gone a long time. My syncro has sat in storage for the last 3 years :( I’ve been playing with lots of MK2’s since but now it’s time to get my syncro on the road. I’ve learnt a lot over the last 3 years. My plans have changed since thinking about putting a 2.0 8v in it. I’ve got myself a complete 1.9 TDi passat so I’m going the TDi route. Fitting the engine isn’t going to be an issue but there’s a couple of things for me to work through.
The fuel tank – can I change the filler neck and what do I do about the in tank sender?
    &
The gear box – Can I fit the transfer box on to the passat gear box?

    Glad to be back :D

I can see some arch trims in the back ground, does it come with the set of 4?

The hard work is about to start. My MK3 GTi donor car is up on axle stands and is almost time to strip the Syncro. I’m going for a MK3 EFI 2E engine swap. Is there anything I should watch out for? Do I need to change the fuel pump and fuel lines? Can I use the MK3 clocks and will they fit in to the MK2 dash of am I going to have to swap the dash aswell?

This is the new engine I will be putting in the syncro. I’d like to move the clocks and MFA across. I hope this is not going to be to much work!!!

That’s what I thought. I’ve never seen it on a car before. I’ll need to figure out how it works before I take the engine out.

Nice looking little car. I wish we got the Syncro in a 3 door over here! What have you got planned for it?

Mine is on a carb. It’s a 1989 uk 5DR with PAS and CL. It looks like it has a cruse control stalk but I’ve never seen this as an option so I need to look in to this.

Is there much to do fitting the agg lump, do you have to change the fuel lines, fuse box?

Would a 2.0 8v from a mk3 have the right holes. I have a very nice one sat in my barn. I’m not sure I want to break my GTi now I’m about to start work. I have seen a syncro with a mk3 2.0 8v fitted so I think I might go that way. Will the engine loom just plug in to the back? I want to have everything ready before I start as I can’t wait to get it on the mean streets of swindon :)

I’ll have a look for it as that would be really handy to know before I start. The engine is from a 1985 car and the conversion was done in 1987 so it’s an early one so I might get lucky on this one [8D].

That is a very good price. I know a guy who has paid to have this done and he has spent about £12k It’s had a remap and this was in a MK2 Gti so they have made up the boot floor aswell. You’ve got a deal there mate :)

You’ve got one of those? Nice!!! The bracket looks awesome, I guess I’ll not know if I’ll need it till I get the block out. What are the chances it will go straight in?

I picked the syncro up yesterday and even though it had been parked up for 2 years it pulls like a train. I took it out on a damp and muddy field (It was flat with short grass) and the rear wheels did the business :) It’s going in for an MOT on Wednesday so fingers crossed.
