ParticipantWell, its been a while since Ive updated and theres some good news, bad news and a major change in the car as well!
I had to move house at the start of the year and all was going swimmingly
It had started to snow so I put the cover on and strapped it down. As I was driving along I saw that the cover was flapping and as Id intended to drive 60 miles, I was worried about damaging the paint. It was a pretty stressful time with getting the new house ready and packing etc, so i wasnt thinking straight when i decided to remove the cover. Anyhow, as I was tentatively driving along a dual carraigeway I saw the bonnet lift and slam into the roof at 60mph! I couldnt beleive what had happened and I actually cried a bit. Yes I was that upset!
The bonnet was shagged and the paint was damaged on both sides and the scuttle bent. The roof miraculously escaped unharmed, but the paint is shagged!
On another note, Ive been buying some well neeeded parts. Firstly some more sensible brakes in the shape of Wilwood Dynalite 256mm 4 pots
and some polyeurathane engine mounts made by Flowflex UK. The space is pretty damn tight where the exhaust downpipe goes, especially on these rhd cars. Richard was already making a rear and gearbox mount, and the front mount was in development (now being sold), so I suggested a Syncro/Rallye gearbox mount option, sent him a new bush and there are also now produced.
The major change is Im selling my Golf Country Chrome wheels and getting some……………….. lets keep that a secret for now eh
Heres the last pic of the Chromies for sentiments sake

Participantthe cruise control was an aftermarket add on as far as ive seen. Maybe it was also available through VW themselves, but the only place Ive seen pics is the GTI Eng brochure

Participanttheres a thread on here stating which engine codes have the necessary holes. The earlier 8v gti’s have them i think- best to have a search around first as ive long forgotten. There are loads of peeps on here that are very knowledgable and very helpful
