Hmmm…..
What is stopping these youngsters buying something like the Vauxhall Monaro, an MG ZT 260 or an american muscle car instead? Most of these are quick cars and the muscle cars are hopeless around corners!!!!
Although the AA state that 500 youngsters die in RTAs in a year, they don’t say how many of the vehicles involved are NOXed. I would think that less than 1% of them are modified. I would think that a larger proportion are either nicked or are not insured/MOT’d etc.!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberI heard something about services only being done by the manufacturers! But admittedly I only heard second hand.
I haven’t heard anything about limiting engine conversions, and as you say it would be very difficult to enforce. What would happen to all the racing and rallying clubmen?
There was some mention of this after the guy rolled his Land Rover and killed one of his kids, but what occured was covered by current legislation.
I’d be interested to see if anything was raised on this subject.
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberJust had a reply from the seller and he has confirmed that he has 3 sets of 4 wheels.
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberHow did I miss them?
I’ve just emailed the guy to check if he has 3 wheels or 3 sets of 4 wheels as it is not clear on the number of wheels in the auction.
I’ll let you know if anything happens.
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberWhere can I get some from and how much??????
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberThe guy has no idea of the mileage and the only documentation is the V5!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberNot sure what a RSS feed is, but had a look anyway! Currently seems to be limited to more modern vehicles, but as more feeds are added it should spread its ‘net’ wider.
I think this could be a very useful addition to the site. Keep up the good work!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberThat would be appreciated Dave. My brochure is the Marz 91 (is that March or May) with Calmasters.
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberSo what is the difference between the Jan 91 and the May 91 then?
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberI have a copy of the German Chrom brochure.
I have just received some info from VWUK Press Office. They have sent some copies of some press releases about the availability of the Golf Country in the UK. They seem to infer that you could have ordered one for delivery in the UK, but I only know of one possible Country registered as new in UK, although I am still awaiting confirmation from the owner.
They also sent a copy of the English brochure you have Dave (re2) although it is a black and white scan and is next to useless! They also talked about some photos, so I’ll chase them up as well as a decent colour copy of the brochure.
Has anyone got the ‘Additional Supplementary Handbook’ for the Chrom version? The one that is a supplement to the Golf Country supplement?
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberAm I THAT transparent????
Going to go home after lunch so that I can get home in daylight. I don’t fancy driving home in the predicted heavy snow in the dark.
I thought the snow was coming from your way, Chris! Or is it further North from you? Hope you get some soon!

Hungry_Horse_1955MemberLucky ……
We have diddly squat down here.
I’m turning a very nice shade of green!!!!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberWell I have managed to take some pictures of the car and thought I’d stick them on a website for all to see! If you want to have a look, go to http://www.vwcountry.co.uk.
I’ve added a few bits about Golf Countrys in general with some extra pictures (although the GTI pictures do not seem to be working). Click on the pictures to get a larger view!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberThanks for the response guys.
The engine is the 1P version (right Chris?) which I believe from Chris’s other posts is identical to the GTi 8v but a detuned ECU and a Cat.
The car went in for a service yesterday and the guy oiled the throttle spindles which has made a hell of a difference. However, this begs the questions – How long has it been like this? What happened in the previous services? What has it done to the throttle cable? (Stretched and weakened) I haven’t taken it out on a motorway yet so don’t know what difference it has made there, but now does nearer 60mph around the lanes without much effort on the pedal!
I’m not sure what type of tow hook ordinary Golfs have but this mounts behind the valance on the additional chassis member mounted across the rear of the car and then curves under the valance and back up. The shape is a J shape, but for some unknown reason is usually refered to as a swan neck (inverted J?).
I’ll have to check the GTi ECU I’ve got as it is likely to be a UK version. Does anyone know how to tell the difference?
Chris, do you know where the chip you have came from?
If I fit a LHD G60 Syncro manifold and downpipe, do I need to cut it short as the Country engine is lower in the body shell?
In the meantime I think I need to pay a trip to my local VW dismantler to source a few bits.
Yet again, thanks for the help,
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberI’m not really taking it off road, just a couple of gentle lanes around here! They can get a bit muddy in the winter months and I don’t think the ATs would be any good! Also, I know that some tyres are next to useless on wet grass so was looking for something a bit more chunkier although MTs would be a bit extreme.
The fitter at the local tyre emporium said he uses the Quadtrac 2 on his Volvo T5 and he reckons they are amazing in the wet and dry!
I’ve seen the 14″ BF Goodrich tyres on the internet, but I think they are only available in USA and Oz! Shipping might be a tad expensive!!!!
I think I’ll go for the Quadtrac 3s and I’ll report on how I get on.
