Front Bull Bar and Side Steps.
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberWhere’s the link for ebay? I didn’t know we had one!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberSorry Mike, I didn’t manage to get down to Barnstaple as I’d wished.
Garage has got flooded so will need to sort out the rather wet boxes. The transfer box was out of the way so remained dry!
I’ll check out how much it set me back and charge you the same.
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberI’m away next week, but should be down in Barnstaple sometime in November.
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberHi Mikes,
Whereabouts do you live. I’ll sort something out and let you know how much it will cost.
Clive
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberYeah, used the number on the old one to order the new one. I’m slowly learning how to get around VWs parts []
I’ll check the light connector if I get time tonight.
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberYou could well be right! I just did a quick search of the internet.
The majority of the sites suggests the following as standard tyre sizes. Obviously they may have been other alternatives available!
- Vehicle – Tyre – Rolling Dia
- Lesser Golfs – 175/70R13 – 575
- GTi – 185/60R14 – 578
- Syncro – 185/60R14 – 578
- Edition 1 – 195/50R15 – 576
- Rallye – 205/50R15 – 586
- Country – 195/60R15 – 615
- Country Chrom – 205/60R15 – 627
Note that the majority of Golfs have the same rolling diameter, regardless of the wheel size.Anyway, I digress. Back to my motor!
I decided to test the speedo last night on the way home so took the following readings;-
- 3450rpm – 120kph
- 2500rpm – 86kph
This compares with the values I got using the vwtechnic.com spreadsheet http://vwtechnic.com/transmission.htm using an ARM gearbox ratios;-
- 3450rpm – 121.8kph
- 2500rpm – 88.3kph
More to come as I have to get back to earning some money[]
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberWell, that mucked up all my calculations!
And I realised I should have been comparing the wheel sizes to the standard Country tyre size.
I shall now go away and do some more sums before I open my gob again[]
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberWhat rims do you use with your winters?
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberA quick update on my Vredstein Quatrac 3 tyres. In conjunction with the Syncro system, these performed brilliantly in Summer (France), rain (UK), Winter (even in the 12″ + of snow we seem to be getting quite regularily in the UK now), the occasional foray onto grass & rutted tracks and almost every other kind of surface you are likely to come across! I was thinking of getting some winter equivalents to make the vehicle even better on the snow and ice, but I’m not convinced the difference will be that much as they are already designed as a winter tyre!
The only down side was really down to me and not the tyres themselves! The middle of the tyres wore out quicker than I thought (teach me for not checking them more often). This was probably due to a couple of things, one being the daily trek at *30kph around the M25 every day (it was early morning) and the other being that I set the pressures to that recommended in the manual! Unfortunately, the manual recommends 30psi (I think) but this is for 195 section tyres. Mine are 205 section tyres, so my new set are now set to 28psi to prevent premature balding (or is that me?)!
All in all, the combination of the Syncro system and the Quatrac 3 is almost unbeatable. The only way you are likely to beat it is to use the equivalent Vredestein Summer set & Winter set of tyres, but that gets really expensive!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberI have a set of washers with pump and wiring, but they are designed to fit the small bumper model and sit proud of the bumper, so to speak, and are shaped to fit the ‘corner’. The washers on the ebay ad are flatter, with a slight curve at the edge, no doubt to sit on the top of the big bumper.
However, the small bumper washers do not fit the Country as the Bull Bar gets in the way. I have seen pictures (probably buried in one of my memory sticks) of a Country fitted with washers that were claimed to be OEM. Obviously, these are ‘flat’ type washers that sit further back on top of the bumper. I wonder if VW bodged the Big Bumper type to fit! I’ll have to check out my pictures!!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberAwe shucks, you beat me[:p]
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberJust tried mine;-
Beat the download speed!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberGood on ya lad!
Hungry_Horse_1955MemberBl**dy H*ll! That’s probably faster than I get at home…
