I’ve always gone the route of 14″ wheels… then you’ve got room for a proper knobby tire:

I don’t know if the BFG AT TA KO is available on your side of the pond, but the 195/75-14 is pretty much a perfect fit. [:D]

There shouldn’t be any difference. And the exact same vacuum unit bolts to the back as any Golf syncro rear diff uses, so no difference there either.

I think the Sharan/T4 syncro use a vacuum unit for the actual locker. I’m gonna use a mechanical lever for mine… somehow.

Sure, or just the angle drive on any 02C transmission. The angle drive I got is from an A3, FEX is the code I believe.

I forget how much I paid… $200-$300? It’s a brand new unit from a transmission shop, and they couldn’t remember where they got it, or why.

The VC is roughly the same size as the Country’s. The way it attaches to the T4/Sharan rear diff is totally different than the Country, though I believe it attaches to the propshaft similarly. So the 2 VCs are not interchangeable…

Yep, it’s got a little lever coming out the left top side you see that’s got the aluminum cover.

Dutchdub bracket needed clearancing on that side, as will a hole in the top of the bracket for that lever to get full range of motion.

Pretty sure it’s the same diff, T4 to Sharan. I’ll get part numbers together & we’ll see for sure!

Um, see my post a few down..? :)

Just getting started, I’ll post a little more when I get the front bracket done on it…

Dunno, bought it off somebody. Gonna powdercoat it & trade for a Dutchdub-modified rear beam. [:D]

Safe to say they were totally worn tho by the way they fell out…

Yeah, that’s just what was left of the bushings… pryed it all out & the beam looks fine. Duh! Thanks!

Hmmm, I’ll take a look at some new bushings, guess I don’t remember the sleeve…

Wow, you are a braver man that I.

G&K is the RI originally responsible for federalizing the 1st Rallye, I do believe.

They tried to get permission from VW to bring in a Golf Country for me years ago… apparently petitioning the mfr. is the 1st step towards gaining an exemption number for whatever vehicle you are trying to import. VW said “no”. [:(]

    Yes, let’s see those pics!

Is it a camber issue in the back? Maybe it’s gone a bit saggy. Mine seemed a little saggy in the rear, so I drilled the center out of a couple hockey pucks and put those between the springs & their perches. Now she sits just right. [:D]

    I always liked this pic:

Never really found out what the tires were… some kind of euro-only retread in the BFG style tread I think. Maybe the same tires as HH was mentioning.

Post a link or info when you get it… I’m looking for another 16V syncro header/manifold option too.

It’s too bad the guts won’t swap into the earlier steel transfer box, that would be the perfect fix, plus I’ve got a couple of those kicking around… Are we sure that even a good machinist couldn’t make that work? When your transfer boxes went, did it destroy the gearset as well?

Hell, maybe I’ll be ok as is… I’m only envisioning a modestly hopped up TDI for mine.
