The one that sticks in my mind the most is when I was at GTi International a few years ago. Thought I’d run the Syncro down the 1/4 mile. Got my ticket and then got in the queue for my first run. The bloke comes down and takes my ticket and then writes my number on the rear screen and then puts me in the 2wd class.
Me: “Excuse me mate. You’ve put me in the 2wd class. This car is 4wd.”
Mate: (we’ll call him mate for continuity) “4wd?? Are you sure??”
Me: “Yes mate. I’ve seen the propshaft running under the car. I’ll stay in the 2wd class but it’ll be cheating”
Now I thought this would end the matter. I’ve stated that the car is 4wd and how I know…..but no, he doesn’t believe me!!! He calls over his mate (I’m gonna call him Dave) and they have a little chat out of earshot. Dave then comes over to talk to me…
Dave: “So this is 4wd is it?
    Me: Yes
Dave: “Oh ok. So who did the work on it?
Me: “VW back in 1991 when the car was built….”
Dave then decides I’m not mad and changes the class on the rear screen…thanks “mate” and “Dave”

Maybe not so good in a carpark with retrospect. We don’t want any rozzers on our backs!!
I’m lucky as I have Salisbury plain about 10 mins from my house so a bit easier for me.

We could learn off each other by the sound of things!! Left foot braking took a little while as my foot didn’t have the finess of my right foot – all it had to do was stamp on the clutch!! It’s easier to learn on an auto I think

It would help lock the back end up alot easier when you then introduced the handbrake with left foot braking. I don’t know if it was strictly nessacerry but I did it as i didn’t want to come off the power, just get some turn angle. I really should have taken a video of that as it was great fun!! I’ve never been able to heel and toe!! Tricky!!

I thought the A8 would be very FWD orientated (It is indeed 4wd) but you could take a similar line to RWD for getting it stepping out. It does feel quite netural when you press on on round-a-bouts.
The passat was a 92 model. No clutch left in it but the agression you could chuck at it to get it out was impressive!! Did feel odd being on the power, left foot braking and handbraking all at once!!
I’m near Salisbury. I’ll get a video up next time I try anything out!!

I like the idea of drifting also. My Golf would get real frisky on slippery conditions and it nearly took my out!! lol!! Didn’t take much to step it out (on snow!!) It’s also low enough to only run on about 2 inches of the rear tyres!!
I had an old Passat and learnt some left foot braking with handbrake for good measure. Was fun!! The angle you could get was amazing!!
I then tried with a Jaguar Soverign. Obviusly very different but good again until I binned it on a roundabout!! Luckily no big damage!!
I’ve had a little play with my current hack (4.2 A8!!) and that’s quite fun!! More rear end than I thought!!

I was never a fan of Mk2 Golfs. My brother got a white 8v GTi and it just didn’t look right to me. Was into my Roccos then!! I then found a Mk2 16V and that changed my ideas on Mk2’s!! I then got a mint Jetta 16v and then sold it to my mate (who tried to kill it, but was then saved my another mate who’s lavished lots of time and money on it!!) I was then going to get a stolen recovered G60 Corrado. Me and a mate both took a day off work to see it but I couldn’t get through to the garage. My mate happened to look through an autotrader and found a place in Farnham with a 3 door G60 Syncro?? Never heard of a 3 door car and thought it must be a typo!! Went to look at it and still have it 6 years later!!

Ah yes, the camber kit!! I’d be wanting to do this as well!! The car’s quite low so it never handles like it should!! Lift off oversteer from very low speeds in the wet!!
