I am worried about finding a pb head that I know nothing about, as i may have to get one second-hand.
it a toss up between modifying the my gu head or trying to get hold of a recond pb.

If i put bigger valves in the gu head do you think it would be as good as a standard pb head / or i would need a different cam as well valves to be as good as the pb ?
Also would you guys recomend getting the heads ported/polished or are the gains not realy noticible ?

Get the engine up to normal tepreature.
Screw in the mixture screw all the way, then back it off 2 turns.
Get the engine to run at 900rpm with the idle screw.
Then screw in the mix screw until the idle is nearer 800rpm.
Check the choke flap is fully open when the choke is pushed in.

I have just replaced my carb but i also replaced the rubber gasket between the manifold and the carb as thease are prone to leak.
Also the inlet manifold gasket, but try the others first.

    Also check the fuel jets.
If you look down from the top of the carb you will see 4 brass screws. The 2 on the left do the slow speed. Take them out (carefully) and check to see they are not blocked.

Try to stick with the weber as i have found them reliable.

Go to, webcon.co.uk. You can phone them if you are stuck.

If you are going to top up the gear box oils, use this ,ttp://www.belesta.com/.

This oil is quite expencive but worth every penny.
A 2 litre bottle will do about 4 car gear boxes.
Use it in everything, i found better gear change, more mpg,and much quieter running gear.

removing old drums, put a screwdriver in the wheel bolt hole, use a torch to find the ajustment wedge and push it up. this should release the drum.

fitting new shokers. it has taken me a week to find the right ones[:(!] EURO CAR PARTS AND GSF were no help. Auto car parts found the right ones (GLASGOW). i use kyb gas shokers. but you will need to remove the spring seating plate as the new ones dont come with them !

fitting new rear brake shoes, you may need to ajust the shoes with the drums on by, file or grind a old screwdriver to a fine point, using the same idea as before use it to pull the wedge down using the small hole at the bottom of the wedge. you may need to bend the screwdriver a bit to get it to reach the hole.
The brakes may feel soft as sh@t. bleed the rear cylinders with the bleed screw until all the air is out.

    Hope this helps

Another very good oil to get is BELESTA. link http://www.belesta.com/
I put it in my gear box and transfer box as it was very noisy and it made a big difference. it is also thick for those bad oil seals, it is a bit expensive but you only use a tiny amount.you should find it changes gear better and give you more mpg.[:)]

    Howdy,
Word of warning to water injection.
I had a simple water injection kit on a old polo in the 1990s which worked good, once i got 70mpg out of her on a long run[:)].
But after wanting more performane i put 50% meths 50% water in the tank and put too much of the mix in at high revs.
The compression droped soon after as i think i had washed the cylinder bores.[:(]
I recon with higher % of water meth mix i would change the engine oil to a castor based oil as used for methanol runing engines.
Change the oil often and keep an eye on oil levels!
Ps, anyone got a dash for a syncro ?

keep the syncros going, i am starting to like mine a lot.

yer, now what you mean about eating aluminium,
But if you add 1-2% water, methanol isnt corrosive.[:)]
Will need to increase the compression ratio to make it more economical tho[:(] after converting i gona try a hydrogen generator so more bang for the buck[:D]
