hey there chris onl just got your email you sent about phoning me it came through as junk for some reason. dont wory i dont want to waste your money by phoning from abroad thanks for the offer tho. when you earth the plug out to the head you can see it sparks but yes when u pull the plugs they are very wet im pretty sure there is enough petrol is there a base setting you can put the weber to. like turn the mixture screw all the way in and then 3 turns back out for example? if you guys recon it should definatly run on the 276 cam it has to be fuel/ air because i no it is sparking now and its sparking at the right time.

right garage had a look today. they noticed that i had timed the dizzy up to go clockwise and not anticlockwise so that was a problem and they have put the leads around the correct way. other than that they cant see any other reason why it will not start. my cambelt is timed correctly etc. they said it is obviursly getting petrol as it stinks of it but without it running they cant check if the carb is set up correctly. the only thing they can think of that could be the problem is the silly 276 cam. do you think this could be the problem and by swaping the cam to the old gti cam do you think it would run? seriosly tho everyone thanks for your help so far.

hey ive tried starting the car again today while twisting the distributor. she is trying to fire but still wont actually start. i am going to see if i can take it to some m8s i no at a garage in the next couple of days and see what they can sort out.

if my timing was out sureley i would be hitting pistons with valves? im going to try and static time the dizzy tomorrow see if that makes any diference. all my earth straps are present i think one from weber to the rocker and one from the coil to the rocker and obviously battery earth.

in reply to: help please #3639

i got it from kevin coopers how do i tel the diference. i still cant get it to run im realy stumped now. the cam ive put in it is essentialy for a gti so fuel injection do u think this could be it. but i supose if this was the case a gti head wuldnt work at all.

in reply to: help please #3690

hey ive gone back to basics i have made sure 100% that timing is right correct valve is being opened at correct time and that the ignition timing is correct. i then checked the spark and there wasnt one so i have baught a new coil and now have a spark. she now will fire a litle bit every so often so i am about to go out and richen the mixture see if that gets her started.

hey thanks for the quick post i have tried what you said and it will still not work. when the head was removed it was not timed up stupid I know.
I have timed it up as per auto data. so auxillary and bottom pulley meet one another with the rotor arm pointing towards timing mark and the cam pulley facing upward. i take it this is correct. i have put the leads on correctly so when each piston is on its compression stroke the dizzy is pointing to the correct lead. i am compleatly stumped for ideas. do you think the dwel angle could be out aftyer replacing the head enough to not alloow the car tio start. also could it be somthing to do with the carb not fueling it enough on the new cam? any help would be very much apreciated. thanks

can someone tell me if the hydraulic tappets from a gu head are the same as the ones in the gti head as the ones in my gu head have done alot less miles than the ones in th gti head.

    in reply to: cam #3189

hey thats cool i no what one is how much do you normally shave them down you just do it on a grinder yes? 2-3 cm or more than that?

    in reply to: cam #2807

hey i dont want to sound stupid but what is a shaved hedgehog?

    in reply to: cam #2773

is there any diference between the bottom end of a gti say pb engine code engine and the gu engines that the syncro use or is it just the head that is the main difenance between the engines. thanks

    in reply to: cam #3181

hey there what performance cams are there for the gu engine does any one no will a normal 8v gti performance cam fit because i was toying with the idea of keeping my head and geting a fast road cam or something like that?

    in reply to: cam #3108

hey can someone help i have tracked down a head from a gti 8v will any head fix of does it have to be a pb etc. it has these numbers on it. 45
    026103 373 H
does this mean anything i dont want to buy it and find out its the wrong head.

    in reply to: cam #3070

chris s I am thinking of doing the 8v GTI upgrade like you suggested so I am trying to track down a PF, PB or RV head.
Can you tell me are these heads adjustable tappets on shims or are they hydraulic?
Other than the injectors what other modifications need to be made to get the manifolds etc to fit or will they just bolt straight on?
And finally what should I be looking out for when buying the head? thanks for any help.
