WOW, not much interest is there?
I thought that with the falling US dollar, people would be more interested.1.8TsyncroB3MemberHolmes, if the shell goes to the scrapper, can you ask if they would be willing to cut and ship the part to me?
1.8TsyncroB3MemberI’m in no rush so if anyone is able to sort out a low cost solution and be able to cut & ship the parts I need, that would be nice. I’m not desperate, and I don’t want anyone to go to excessive effort on my behalf. It would be a shame though if the shell goes to the crusher without removing the rear boot floor. They are in high demand over here in Canada/USA.
1.8TsyncroB3MemberDiamond & Holmes, Whatever you can arrange, I would be gratefull!
1.8TsyncroB3MemberHolmes, Would you be willing to cut out the part of the rear boot floor and ship it? I need the rear diff support member. I’d be willing to pay the £75 + shipping just for this part.
1.8TsyncroB3MemberThere is a newer programmable unit in the works that will talk CAN-BUS as well as monitor most of the same sensors as the factory controller. The best part is that everything will be user selectable and programmable. Since it is still a development unit, I can’t divulge much more, except to say that it is way more advanced than the current controllers out there.
1.8TsyncroB3MemberI say we should give it a try. The worst VW could do is demand that we take it down.
Another possible option for some of the more questionable documentation is to create a detailed links page for members. There is a growing wealth of syncro related info hosted on many other sites. The downside is that some links go dead as the host sites are revised, requiring occasional clean-up and fine tuning by an administrator.
1.8TsyncroB3MemberI think that if local members have the chance to gain from discounts, then lets work to give them the opportunity to access them. Long distance members from across the pond should know that they won’t be entitled to every advantage. Afterall, this site’s address does have “UK” in it, and the majority of the members are from the UK and surrounding countries.
I’m sure that most of our members have noticed how most of the big VW oriented US sites focus mostly on US members. Even a Canadian neighbour isn’t able to take advantage of all the “deals” advertised on the US sites.
The internet has given us the world to explore, but we must keep in mind that there are still some limitations!
The main point here is that if a member values the contents of the site he/she frequents, then he/she will continue to visit that site. That same member will most likely be willing to make a contribution towards keeping that site functional. I doubt that there are many members that just join for the discounts made available to them.
1.8TsyncroB3MemberHere in Canada, all the Passat G60 Syncros I’ve seen were 1992 models and had the 3 pipe version.
I just had a look at ETKA and figured out the situation for the Golf. But VW has made an error for the Passat Syncro.
All MkII Golf Syncro without ABS
Early MkII Golf Syncro with ABS up to 1987 (VIN >> ..-H-513 420)
Use the 4 pipe brake pressure regulator and had 2 pipes running from the master cylinder to the regulator.Late MkII Golf Syncro with ABS (VIN ..-H-513 421>>)
Use the 4 pipe brake pressure regulator BUT had 1 pipe running from the master cylinder to the regulator, and a “T” fitting (Part # 803 611 755) just ahead of the regulator to split the incoming line.ETKA shows the MkIII syncro as having the 4-pipe unit and 2 lines from the master. ETKA also shows the B3 Passat syncro as having the 4-pipe unit, but 1 single pipe from the master ans NO “T” fitting. I wonder why most of them had the 3 pipe unit then?[V]
1.8TsyncroB3MemberWith your comments in mind, I think the only way to safely display this site’s financial contributions would be with a bar graph(thermometer)and no financial figures, just a percentage value. This way we know how close we are to our goal, but nobody will know the exact amount of funding recieved or required, or who contributed. Of course this would require a bit of LD50’s time to monitor and display the data, but the graph could be displayed beside the contibution button.
That said, I too would rather be tinkering on my syncro, so off I go to the garage with a smile on my face []
1.8TsyncroB3MemberWell explained and understood!
1.8TsyncroB3MemberThe part number currently listed in ETKA for the syncro is the 4 pipe version. All the syncros I’ve seen have had the 3-pipe version which is no longer available from anyone I contacted.
As Chris said, both versions are identical internally, so all that needs to be done is plumb in a “T” fitting to split the single inlet pipe so it can be connected to the dual inlets of the 4 pipe regulator.
1.8TsyncroB3MemberSite speed on average is much better from my side of the pond. At peak hours, it is noticeably faster, but during off hours, response is immediate.
Have the changes brought on a large increase in annual operatings costs for the site, or are the majority of the recent expenses isolated and due to the purchase of a new box(server)? I’m just trying to understand how these changes will impact us long-term.
1.8TsyncroB3MemberI recall the reasons from the first attempt! Just thought I’d stir the pot a bit.[]
1.8TsyncroB3MemberI second Chris’ request. A list of contributors and the total $$ acummulated to date would be nice to see.
If we actually collect more funds than needed to cover operating costs, then we could direct the extra funds towards developing new features etc. Perhaps some T-shirts?[][][]
