Hi all,
Some of you know me, and surely others do not know me.
It has been over 10+ years since I joined the vwsyncro.co.uk, and I had been on/off from time to time in the meantime.
I gained lots of knowledge and know-how as well as much appreciated help especially from Chris S.
Today I contacted my repair shop, which happens to be one and only G2 specialty shop in Japan, to ask for a possible new owner who is willing to take good care of the syncro.
Over the years I have done lots of upgrades, not to mention repairs, G3 brake upgrade to now-obsolete prop shaft center bearing replacement, done complete swap of door interior panels with GTI fire & ice, Corrado front seats, etc.
One time I suffered from large clunking noise from drive train under acceleration which my previous repair guy could not figure out. It actually turned out to be cracked CV joint star which ultimately broken in pieces to make even larger sound and huge vibration.
I can not thank you guys enough. Thank you Chris. Thank you everyone. Thank you.
Ever since the forum changed its appearance, I sort of felt weird, I guess I am getting old not accepting/adjusting to new things, but I must say I liked the older forum.
I will be getting on/off again even though I would no longer have syncro.
For those who still have the syncro, keep it, take good care of it, enjoy the sh** out of it.
Where I live does not get much snow so in the past decade I had only a few times that I really felt the power of VW SYNCRO. I guess the car is made for someone who really needs the capability.
Bought it in 2003 for just JPY50,000 with only 85,000km on the clock, the car was sitting in a farmer’s field for over 6yrs without shade. After I bought it, I kept it parked in front of my house for 3yrs, then back to life.
Now that after 11years, the car has 168,300km but still runs strong.
I wish I could hold on to it longer, but after all it is a machine. Machine needs to be functioning to be in shape.
I hate to see the syncro getting crappier year after year without driving. Someone else will be able to take better care than I do.
So, this is going to be the last post from g19 in Japan.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, again and again for all your support, willingness to help out.
If any of you syncro-nauts decided to come to Japan, drop me a line.
I live near Yokohama the 2nd largest city in Japan, and if you are nearby, lets get together and have some good Japanese meal with sake! We can talk lots about syncros!
Take care, drive safe, and keep your syncro up!!

hiya,
thanks for being a member for such a long time – obviously it’s sad to hear you’re parting with your syncro but perhaps it will find an enthusiastic new owner…there can’t be many of them which made it as far as Japan. Perhaps refer them to the site in case they need spares etc.

yeah I think we all preferred the old forum to some extent, but it was terribly un-secure and was not working in other ways so it was a case of update it or let it die. The new forum is far from perfect but it’s a lot more secure and (mostly) works…but we’ve been through all this anyway so I won’t dwell on it.
Thanks again for your contributions over the years, you will be missed. If I’m ever in Japan I’ll definitely give you a shout, though that’s a looooooong drive 😉

Hi Shinya, Did you realize you are officially member nr 1?
You joined on 15/04/2003 – the site had been on line for less than 24 hours when you found us!
the only two registrations before yours were LD50 (whose idea the site was) & myself.
That is 15 years ago next month, where has the time gone?
I know I have retired & am now a Pensionado
I am 67 this year I am looking forward to growing old disgracefully!
I notice that the site has become a lot quieter from its heyday 5 to 10 years back, but that must be in part due to the worldwide diminishing number of syncro models left on the road.
