hi guys i want to make myself a 2.0L 8v engine but am unsure what engine comes like this from standard, what is involved? i dont want a 16v and iam not looking to make a gti iwant to keep the carb set-up not for any main reason but just preference. ive seen in this forum the codes you list for different engines, but my knowledge isn’t good at all for these cars. could you tell me what car i should be looking at for a donor and any parts i need for the change. i would also need it as cheap an option as possible. sorry bout all the questions regards[]
2E is ok but is 1/2 an inch taller so you may need to mod the downpipe.
Audi 3A is the same hight it’s a 2ltr 8 valve you will have to edit the webbing on the back of the block to clear the rod change angel drive though
cheers what car is the 2e engine from and what am i looking for. do you think this would be the best option or would it be best to stick with the 1.8?
the 2E is in very plentful supply mk3 golf gti, 2ltr passats pretty much any 2ltr 8 valve from 93 onwards. later gti’s had AGG’s but they are useable as well they just have a very nice toothed wheel built onto the crank and a pickup in the block brillian’t for megasquirt conversion but other than that it’s same as a 2e
The extra 200cc makes a vast difference, dont forget it is almost an 11.5% capacity increase from 1781cc to 1984cc
The relevent figures are
2E 115 bhp @ 5400 rpm & 166 nm @ 3200 rpm Digifant inj
GX- 90 bhp @ 5250 rpm & 137 nm @ 3000 rpm K-jet inj
GU- 90 bhp @ 5200 rpm & 145 nm @ 3300 rpm Twin choke carburettor
1P- 98 bhp @ 5400 rpm & 143 nm @ 3000 rpm Digifant inj
PB 112 bhp @ 5400 rpm & 159 nm @ 4000 rpm Digifant inj
As they both use the same injection system and are very similar in many other ways an almost direct comparison can be made between the 2.0 litre 2E motor and the 1P 1800 version.
My recomputered & chiptuned but otherwise standard 1P motor is now producing about 125 bhp & 165 nm, and will actually pull hard up to 6000 rpm in all gears,
btw the 1p motor is mechanically identical to the 112bhp PB 1.8 8V GTI motor and has been electronically detuned.
Electronically tuned to the same level as my 1P motor the 2E motor should be somwhere around 145 bhp & 190 newton meters, and when fitted with a 268/270 degree cam should have no problems in making an easy 150 bhp
Of course should you go daft and fit your chiptuned 2.0 litre motor with an 8v crossflow head, 40mm throttle bodies and an Eaton M45 compressor, well then over 200 bhp & 200 newton meters are available with just a touch of the right foot,
Performance wise that will be about 6.5 seconds or so to 100 kph (62mph)
and a top end (with the right 5th gear) of 230/235 kph = 140/145 mph
that does sound good, so what i need is the a 2.0L 8v mark 3 golf engine, i dont want the injection crap so do i need any different ecu parts? will the same engine mounts fit? do i need to change the gearbox aswell? does anyone have twin 40s lying about? do i need to change the down pipe etc is the engine stamped 2e on the block? regards darren more questions to come iam just getting started[]thanx
do you think i could still get 150 horses with the 2e block, high lift cam, and either the normal carb set-up or twin 40 carbs? i like to keep my cars simple iam not a fan of injection and charging. however i do like the whoosh from a charger[]
hi sorry the downpipe has to be modified cos the 2e is 1/2inch taller. would help if i payed attention to your answers. my bad[]

A) Yes, or a Passat they are the same motor.Q) I dont want the injection crap, so do I need any different ecu parts?
A) No just throw it all away (or sell it on here)Q) Will the same engine mounts fit?
A) Yes.Q) Do I need to change the gearbox as well?
A) Not yet, but you will later!Q) Does anyone have twin 40s lying about?
A) Suprise suprise I do, btw there are clearance issues on the bulkhead with Weber DCOE & Dellorto sidedraft carbs, a better bet is a Single twin choke Weber or a pair of downdraft Weber DCNF 36 or DCNF 40s, I have both here, I bought them for my last (carb) Syncro, but never got to fit them.Q) Do I need to change the down pipe etc?
A) See previous post.Q) Is the engine stamped 2e on the block?
A) Yes, at the front top right.regards Darren, more questions to come I am just getting started[]thanx
thanx chris. what would you want for one of your crossflow heads and the twin carbs? does that come with a high lift cam? do you have all the bits needed for bolt-on and go? what sort of performance would i get from doing this? iam trying to keep my options open. ive seen a site where you can buy mark 3 2.0l 2e engine for £150 that doesn’t sound to bad? what do you mean when you say i wont have to change the gearbox yet? regards daz
iam gettin the hang of this searching lark[] i found your other post wot about a 2.0l 2e block and a crossflow head withe twin carbs?
So is this list getting any longer? really interested in the TDI lumps
Does that squirter mean it has oil injection under piston? If it is i have heard that these are quite easy to install later on to allmost any block by using ones on KR block. Injectors wont open under 2Bar oil pressure. I might be wrong becouse this is something i have heard, not seen.
