As is most of the mk2 golf syncro/rallye, rallye handbrake cables are now NLA. Im doing a conversion, on my 2wd mk2 to 4wd and have no reference cables to go by. Is there a cable that sort of fits? Also what cable guide tubes can i use. I cant even find them on ETKA.

the cable guides were dropped in 2007

but I suppose you could try Golf 3 Syncro ones though [;)]

Is that drum or disc brakes? The link only talks about drum brakes, cant think that i am the first person who has needed new parts since 2007??

The G2 Syncro drum brake cables are 1580mm

The G2 2WD drum brake cables are 1535mm, 45mm too short

The 2WD G3 drum brake cables are 1495, 85mm to short

The G3 Syncro drum & disc brake cables are 1592mm, 12mm or 1/2 an inch longer than the original ones,

I think that these may be the ones to go for,

    or
    p/n 1H0 609 721C for disc brakes

i’ll add, if you are going for discbrakes, you will have to use disc-brake cables :) as the ends are different from drums :)

bet most of you know this, but i’m just adding the info

i have G3 cables, going to try them on tomorrow :)

and. MK3 cables are not the right ones…..

they are 20cm too long on the inside. and 15cm too long on the outside

meaning, when its mounted correctly. they won’t fit :)

    bummer

15 cms??? ETKA says only 12mm longer or 8mm shorter

    Golf2

    Syncro drum h/brake cables – 1580mm

    Rallye disc h/brake cables – 1600mm

G3 Syncro drum & disc brake cables are 1592mm, 12mm or 1/2 an inch longer than the original drum cables
or 8mm shorter than the Rallye cables!

are you sure you have part number 1H0 609 721C (for disc brakes) and not the 721B for drums?

or did you get the Golf 3 2WD cables?

they are listed as 1495 long for drums & 1613 long for discs

Sorry if its wrong, but I dont know as I can only work on what ETKA states about overall cable length. [B)]

Just to let you know i have got hold of mk3 syncro guide tubes and handbrake cables form my dealer. the tubes fit spot on, might need a slight tweak to the angle underneath where the cables exit the tubes, but other than that perfect. The cables fit and clip into place. They may not be 100% perfect like the mk2 parts, but as you cant actually buy those parts i guess we will have to make do.

The mk3 parts were on factory back order and i am still waiting on 1 cable to arrive. But i guess as i have ordered the last factory stock it should force the factory to produce some more :) I also ordered an extra mk2 rear diff support bush as there was only 1 left at the factory so that should also make them make some more!
