was driving back from bugjam yesterday and pulled into a petrol station. As i did it sounded like i had grounded out on something but when i looked i hadnt. Just after this maybe 5 miles i realised that there was a rattling noise coming from the front somewhere, it sounded like a heat shield had come of or something. as i have been driving it got a bit worse. What could this be thought maybe the wheel bearing but not sure. was wondering if it might be something more than this please help. thanks
It could be the heatshield on the downpipe rattling about
Dunno if this helps but I had a thought – I used to get a clunking on the front end of my syncro a while back too – also ended up changing the bearings and several other bits in order to trace it. It turns out it was tired c-clamps on the manifold/downpipe so the exhaust was knocking against the tunnel in corners…
under load and braking it seemed to move around quite a bit…
with me it was the bonnet stay come off it’s plastic catch and bashing against the alternator.
I see you have a carburettor motor, if so then it could be the metal warm air deflector plate on the exhaust manifold has rotted enough to allow it to rattle about (p/n 027 253 041)
cheers guys it was the protector plate on the back of the discs on the front that had rotten through and was spinning about the wheel duhhh. thanks for the help guys
